Io Interactive revealed more on 007 First lightincluding “distinct differences” between the Bond game and its Hitman series.
Addressing Techradar Gaming in Gamescom 2025, the artistic director of the RASMUS POULSEN franchise First lightthe original story of the transition to adulthood and how the game differs from the Hitman Games for which the studio is so well known.
“We saw online some of the notions that were rummaging when it was announced that we were going to develop a 007 game. So you don’t know, a mystery for people,” said Poulsen. “And in this case, it was not really a mystery for us either, because, of course, we were inspired by transplantation over the years for our previous games. And in this sense, it was a clear succession of our skills and our ambition, in fact, in terms of which it is different.”
Compared to Hitmanexplained the developer, First light is a cinematographic experience by emphasizing the character and history, and although the stealth action is an important characteristic of the Bond game, our playable character and the way players engage with the world will be very different.
“Entering the place of this young link in this original story of maturity that we have designed specifically for you guys, players, it is clear that there are also distinct differences, namely that you are a good distinct guy this time against Al, let’s say, said a anti-hero slightly, perhaps even the villain of Hitman,” said Poulsen. “And therefore, of course, in this sense, there is a whole difference in all the rules with which you engage with the world.”
As for knowing why this story will showcase a young link, he explained that it was “a massive opportunity” for Ioi to play with the idea of what a modern James Bond game is for the first time since 2012.
“Of course, when you ask what it really is, what is the DNA, the next question that arises is, well, how did it happen here?” The developer continued. “And in this sense, for us, it is a wonderful opportunity to marry the public’s journey into intellectual property as he marries the journey of the young leap in the wider world of espionage. It therefore allows us to really align the games of the games with the character of Bond himself.”
