- 007 First light Use the inspiration of Bond movies, but the tropes have been adapted differently for the good of the logic of the game
- The artistic director of the game franchise, RASMUS Poulsen, said that the logic of action film “does not apply to games”
- Some classic bond tropes have been adapted “to adapt to the modern medium”
007 First lightThe artistic director of the franchise, RASMUS POULSEN, said that the next IO Interactive game is inspired by “classic” binding tropes that have been adapted differently from films for logic.
In an interview with Techradar Gaming in Gamescom 2025, where we also had the opportunity to try an early demo of 007 First lightPoulsen discussed the creation of a cinematographic connection game with an original story.
He explained that, even if Ioi was inspired by the franchise, the studio took liberties during the translation of the tropes of the action film in his game.
“You cannot apply cinematographic logic to the world of game,” said Poulsen, “because often, when you watch a film with your father and says:” In fact, son … “and says something that breaks immersion, you know that this state of mind will probably not take you very far.
“Often, when you make games, you need a certain balance, because you have to feel like a hero as a player. So the same logic does not necessarily apply. Obviously, I do not say here that we have not criticized ourselves and that we have not managed to feel good. What I say is the same logic does not apply to games.”
Poulsen continued, saying that the team had tried to recreate a similar classification of colors for which the ancient Bond films are known, but that did not seem correct for the action game.
“Another aspect is, for example, we explored the selection of colors and the classification of colors, and therefore for the pursuit by car [in the demo] And the whole mission in general, we were inspired by palettes of colors of old films, and at the same time, the treatment of this … they seem compressed and a little gray and a little wilted. It doesn’t work for a game either, because you think your TV is broken.
“So we were really inspired by some of these classic tropes, then we adapted them to adapt to the modern medium, whether, say, approach or phonetics or color or presentations.”
007 First light Arrived in 2026 for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.
