At least 12 people were killed and dozens of injuries were injured while a new period of monsoon rains sparked sudden floods and landslides in northern Pakistan on Sunday, increasing the number of deaths to more than 460 in less than two weeks.
New losses have been reported in various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), which remained the hardest hit during the current monsoon fate.
Heavy storms and torrential rains have wreaked havoc at Dera Ismail Khan, killing nine – including women and children – and wounding more than 50.
Three children were also killed when the roof of their house collapsed in the DIR DIR district, which is near the Afghan border, said rescue officials.
Material damage has been reported on a large scale, while the food system collapsed.

A wall of the Jamiat-Ul-Madina mosque in Milyali also fell, although no victim occurred. In Dinpur, the house of Arsalan Baloch collapsed.
After the storm, an emergency was declared in hospitals and the injured received medical aid. Di Khan Commissioner, Zafar-Uul-Islam, Khattak called on citizens to avoid unnecessary trips in stormy weather and take precautions to avoid new loss of linked lives.
The provincial disaster management authority (PDMA) also published a flood and urban flooding alert for several KP districts following recent rains.
According to the alert, the upper districts – Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Biner, Kohistan, Manshra, Abbottabad – as well as simple zones – Charsadda, Nowshera, Swabi and Mardan – could be affected.
He warned that the low zones in Peshawar, Nowshera and Mardan remained at risk of urban floods, while strong precipitation and wind storms could also cause love at first sight. He asked the district administrations, the police, the rescue 1122 and all the institutions concerned to remain vigilant and to take precautionary measures.
According to the latest PDMA report, the rains and sudden floods left 406 dead and 247 injured in the KP. Among the dead are 305 men, 55 women and 46 children; While the wounded include 179 men, 38 women and 30 children.
The floods damaged 3,526 houses in total – partially 2,945 and 577 completely destroyed. Buner remains the hardest district with 337 reported deaths, while Swabi has reported 46 deaths so far.
