In an important decision following the tragedy of the Greek boat, 13 managers of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) were rejected from their posts. This action follows the directive of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in response to the involvement of civil servants in the incident.
FIA director general Ahmed Ishaq Jahangir confirmed on Tuesday that the departmental procedure continued against the staff involved in the tragedy.
The officials were parked at Faisalabad airport at the time of the incident, and their dismissal is part of the agency’s commitment to keep individuals responsible for negligence and fault.
The licensed staff include an inspector, two sub-players, two head agents and eight police officers. In addition, the promotions of three agents were interrupted and disciplinary measures were taken against those deemed responsible.
Jahangir, speaking during an audience in Islamabad, stressed that there was no room for negligent or irresponsible officials within the agency.
He also declared that strict actions would continue against the FIA staff involved in illegal activities, stressing that responsibility is essential to fight against the trafficking of human beings and ensuring the justice of the victims.
Previously, 37 other FIA officials had been rejected for their involvement in similar boat accidents. Jahangir reaffirmed the agency’s position on transparency and responsibility, stressing that no Clémence would be shown to those who exploit innocent citizens.
The FIA promised to continue its efforts to eradicate the trafficking in human beings and ensure the punishment of people recognized as guilty of these odious acts.
The mission of Pakistan in Greece confirmed that five Pakistani nationals were among the victims of a tragic boat accident migrating off the Greek island of Gavdos.
The first reports of a local news channel suggested that at least 40 Pakistanis had perished in the disaster, citing the embassy in Athens.
However, an official of the Pakistani mission in Greece said that the confirmed number of Pakistani victims amounts to five, with 47 other rescued. The official also mentioned that no concrete information on the missing people had so far been received.
Following the tragedy, Prime Minister Shehbaz ordered strict action against FIA officials involved in the facilitation of human traffickers, emphasizing the government’s commitment to fight against human beings and to hold responsible officials.
