The golden age Season 4 is far from being released, but I already feel incredibly sorry for Bertha (Carrie Coon). Admittedly, she has not been my favorite person in the last three seasons of the successful show HBO Max, and they are generally not the most pleasant.
However, she has the weight of the world on her shoulders after the last shocking moments of season 3 final.
Let’s go back for a second. In episode 7, Bertha’s husband George (Morgan Spector) was left to the death door after being killed by a 19th century Hitman disguised as a mail. We learn in episode 8 that he (roughly) draws, but later uses his brush with death to tell Bertha that he does not like him.
Well, at least he no longer knows if he does it. While he thinks, George leaves for New York without as much a friendly thought between them. Meanwhile, Gladys (Taissa Farmiga) was attached to the Duke of Buckingham, announcing her pregnancy in the last moments of the season.
In short, all this means that Bertha lives her dream life by proxy by her daughter, without husband. The golden age Season 4 will surely be his redemption arc, but I think there are two other potential enemies on his way that we have not even considered.
Agnes and Enid could both come for Bertha at the golden age.
Instead of peacefully trying Bertha to assimilate in the British royal family, she has potentially two other fights in her hands: with a long -standing rival (Kelley Curran) and a new potential combat partner in Agnès (Christine Baranski).
Let’s start with Agnes first. As the final of season 3 took place, the niece Marian (Louisa Jacobson) and Larry Russell (Harry Richardson) had not officially obtained their commitment on the right track, although the two said they wanted to do it. It is a nightmare for Agnes because so far, it has simply tolerated the new money that the Russell family represents.
If the marriage goes ahead, there are certainly arguments in Gogo while the two families try to blend into one. Bertha had the approval of Agnès after winning the Opera War for season 2 against Mrs. Astor (Donna Murphy), but this tolerance can be swept away.
This is where Enid enters. Oops.
Again, she is a new money, and after Oscar was scammed with all the family’s money (who returned to the Haymarket double-cross of season 3), that’s bad news. Larry and Marian Maring would make sure that Iid was essentially part of the Russell family, there are therefore more problems to stir up the potential fire of the quarrel.
We currently have no idea if George returns to The golden age Season 4, but again, it could cause other problems. Bertha should welcome Enid to the family if the wedding continues, and this should open old injuries if George always launches (and worse, if he decides that he no longer wants to be with Bertha).
Does what Bertha needs in season 4 of the golden age? Absolutely not. Will the new potential rivalries make new episodes even juicy for us? You can count on it.
The three seasons of The golden age are broadcast on HBO Max in the United States, now TV in the United Kingdom and Paramount + in Australia.
