LAHORE:

A district and sessions court on Thursday sentenced two convicts to double life imprisonment each for murdering a man and a woman in a marriage refusal dispute and throwing their bodies into a drum.

Additional Sessions Judge Shoaib Anwar Qureshi announced the verdict at the District and Sessions Court in Lahore after the completion of the trial.

The convicts, identified as Kulsoom Bibi and Ali Hassan, were sentenced to two counts of life imprisonment each for the murders of Farzana and Amanat.

According to the prosecution, the motive for the crime was a dispute arising from the refusal of marriage.

The accused allegedly murdered the victims in Sheikhupura in 2023.

Investigation revealed that after committing the crime, the convicts placed the bodies in a drum and transported them to Lahore, where they were dumped in the Nishtar Colony area in an attempt to cover up the offence.

The case was registered by the Nishtar Colony police station on the charge of murder after the bodies were recovered.

During the trial, prosecutor Shabbir Ahmed Khan presented 16 witnesses to support the charges against the accused.

The court considered the evidence, including testimony and investigation findings, before concluding the trial.

After finding that the prosecution’s arguments were proven beyond reasonable doubt, the court handed down the sentences of the two convicts.

The detailed judgment is expected to set out the court’s observations regarding the motive, evidence and circumstances of the double murder.
