One of the best things about Hulu is that its catalog is so vast that it includes all sorts of little curiosities, such as true crime shows that have already aired on other broadcasters and streamers that you may not subscribe to or listen to. And three particularly welcome new crime shows are available to stream starting this month.
Although all three shows focus on true crimes and tell often terrifying stories, they each have a different focus. Death by fame looks at the entertainment industry and the people around it, while Murder under the Friday Night Lights focuses a lot on the deadly rivalries and obsessions of high school football.
Death by fame season 3
Look on it
Death by fame has a simple setup: it focuses on truly horrific crimes perpetrated in and around the glamorous entertainment industry, and season 3 brings a typically wholesome selection including a human torso in a dumpster, a strangulation in a bathtub, and a drowning in a swimming pool, among others.
Let’s be honest: the “Fame” part of the title is often a bit of a stretch: while earlier seasons included well-known names such as Run DMC’s Jam Master Jay, few people in these later episodes are well-known – but that’s true, because crimes in and around the music, television, and film industries are often committed by or against people who are seeking fame without necessarily having found it.
The focus on the entertainment industry is apt, as it is an industry full of sharks, easy targets, very vulnerable people, and excess of all kinds. This doesn’t make it very safe, but it provides plenty of stories to tell. Death by fame to investigate.
Murder Under the Friday Night Lights season 4
Look on it
The entertainment industry isn’t the only place where cruel ambitions, dangerous rivalries, and brutal violence can be found. Season 4 of Murder under the Friday Night Lights it is found on high school football teams, where dangerous obsessions can lead to brutal acts.
This fourth season of the established crime series would definitely dissuade you from becoming a cheerleader: many episodes here cover cheerleaders turned murderers, cheerleaders going missing, and cheerleaders found dead. It’s almost a relief to have an episode where the victim is an athletic trainer rather than a current or former cheerleader.
