I am not someone crying when I watch a very emotional movie or television series. Of course, I am in tearful eyes but, in the vast majority of cases, I never find myself looking for a box of fabrics to stem the flow of cascade tears on my face after a particularly devastating scene or sequence.
Until now in 2025, however, three different shows have somehow cracked my steel resolution and have transformed me into a wreck of fat. Is it because I get older and therefore more likely of emotionally productions? Are their stories so well designed that they draw more harsh strings harder? Or is it simply a great coincidence that three of the most destructive projects have all been launched on the best streaming services in the world this year? Who can say.
Anyway, I do not want to be the only softie here, so here is the trio of television originals that have relaunched my cold and dead heart in the first six months of the year.
Adolescence (Netflix)
Release date: March 13
Number of episodes: 4
Main course: Stephen Graham, Ashley Walters, Faye Marsay, Christine Tremarco, Erin Doherty, Amelie Pease and Owen Cooper
Director: Phil Barantin
Rotten Tomatoes (RT) reviews: 99%
Netflix’s biggest television hit in 2025 so far and, at the time of publication, the second original television in English most watched in the history of streamer (take this, Foreign things Season 4!) Is an essential mini-series.
A story whose individual chapters are all shot as a long continuous grip – a highly technical process known as “oner” – Adolescence tells Jamie (Cooper), 13, who was arrested for suspicion of having murdered a student in her school. Each episode also focuses on different characters during and after the police investigation, with the immediate and long -standing impact of the allegedly resentment crime resentful by all the people involved.
Praised by fans and criticisms for his writing, his staging, his cinematography, his tone and his individual and collective distribution performances, Adolescence is an emotional power that deserves a permanent place on our list of Netflix emissions. Its impact was so great, in fact, that it sparked multiple national discussions in the United Kingdom on the crime of knives for young people, the alarming rise in misogynous opinions in male adolescents, systemic failures and local and national levels. A heartbreaking program that will leave you a lasting impression long after the turn of its sequence of final credits.
Andor Season 2 (Disney +)
Release date: April 22
Number of episodes: 12
Main course: Diego Luna, Adria Arjona, Genevieve O’Reilly Stellan Skarsgard, Denise Gough, Kyle Soller, Forest Whitaker, Faye Marsay and Alan Tudyk
Directors: Ariel Kleinman, Janus Metz and Alonso RuizPalacios
RT criticism score: 97%
Star Wars is a family franchise. Of course, he sometimes pushed the limits of what is suitable for young members of his world fans base, but, on the whole, he did not do everything possible to alienate parts of his world community.
Andor is the only project that dared to be different. A Disney + series with live action and focused on adults, he threw the traditional Star Wars game book in favor of telling a political and spying story focused on thriller which not only stars a whole multitude of morally gray characters, but also addresses difficult subjects of conversation around fascism, sexual assault, human cost and The Revolution.
I really enjoyed Andor Season 1 but, whether it be to its impactful stories, the second much more confident season of the show, or a combination of the two, season 2 is a whole different beast. You can find out more about the reasons why it is a paradoxically entertaining but heavy watch in my Andor Revision of season 2, or go and broadcast one of the best Disney + programs of its entirety at the moment. It will be worth it once you reach Andor Season 2 Episode 8, that is to say the punch of a chapter that made me sob.
The last of us season 2 (max)
Release date: April 13
Number of episodes: 7
Main course: Pedro Pascal, Bella Ramsey, Isabela Merced, Young Mazino, Gabriel Luna, Rutina Wesley and Kaitlyn Dever
Directors: Craig Mazin, Neil Druckmann, Kate Herron, Mark Mylod, Stephen Williams and Nina Lopez-Corrado
RT criticism score: 92%
The last of us Season 2 was a slight step down the quality compared to its more rented ancestor, but the popular HBO and Max TV original always had the ability to emotionally destroy viewers several times.
I do not think that anyone who has yet overcome the second or sixth episodes of last season. I also include myself among this contingent – and it’s like someone who played The last of us part IIalias the second game in the video game of Naughty Dog Name The last of us The second release of the television show is based.
With The last of us Season 3 at the start of development, there will be much more painful moments to come in one of the best Max shows. It might be better to store fabrics now, then before The last of us“The third episode makes its television bow and potentially stops our hearts like its predecessors.
