31 terrorists killed in Lakki Marwat and Bannu Ibos: ISPR

Thirty-one terrorists linked to the Fitna Al Khwarij network sponsored by the Indians were killed in two intelligence operations carried out by the Pakistan security forces in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on September 13 and 14, inter-service public relations (ISPR) announced on Monday.

According to the army media wing, the first operation took place in the district of Lakki Marwat following militant presence reports. “Our troops have effectively hired the location of Khwarij, and after an intense fire exchange, fourteen activists sponsored by the Indians were neutralized,” said ISPR press release.

In a separate operation in the Bannu district, seventeen additional activists were killed during a shooting with security forces. “Disinfection operations are underway to eliminate all Khwarij, sponsored by the Indians, in the region,” added the press release, stressing that the forces of Pakistan are determined to “eliminate the threat of terrorism sponsored by India in the country”.

These recent operations are part of a wider terrorism campaign in KP. Earlier this week, operations in Bajaur, in southern Waziristan and lower DIR districts led to the elimination of 45 activists, with 19 martyred soldiers, according to the ISPR.

Weapons and ammunition were recovered from activists, who participated in several attacks targeting civilians and security staff.

Intelligence reports indicate the physical involvement of Afghan nationals in some of the attacks, which prompted Pakistan to urge the Acting Afghan government to prevent the use of its soil for terrorist activities.

“The use of Afghan soil against Pakistan by terrorists remains a serious concern,” noted the ISPR, highlighting the regional dimension of the threat.

The operations, carried out on the basis of intelligence reports, reflect the accent put by the armed forces on the elimination of extremist elements which threaten peace in the region.
