Our latest article on streaming recommendations for October 2025 is a real head-scratcher. Of course, we didn’t have to go through as many options as we expected this week. But, given the strength of the offer, certain new films and shows were not selected. Sorry, Hotel in Hazbin season 2, Robin HoodAnd I love Los Angeles…
However, I hope you agree that this week’s seven suggestions are worth including. So whether you’re looking for dinosaur-based action, high fantasy, sci-fi, or melodrama, we’re sure one or more of the below will scratch your streaming itch. – Tom Power, senior entertainment reporter
Jurassic World: Rebirth (Peacock)
The latest entry in the hit dinosaur franchise is now streaming on Peacock.
Critics were divided on Renaissance of the Jurassic world, so it certainly proved divisive. In my equally mixed Renaissance of the Jurassic world review, I called it “much better than Jurassic World: Domination“, but admitted that he was struggling to bring the franchise back to life.
Anyway, Renaissance follows a new cast as they travel to a former island research center in search of important samples. Despite the reviews, sometimes you can’t go wrong with a loud, action-packed movie featuring big stars and even bigger dinosaurs. That’s what lazy weekends are made for, isn’t it? – Lucy Buglas, senior entertainment editor
The Witcher season 4 (Netflix)
Doesn’t Henry Cavill look remarkably like Liam Hemsworth these days? Geralt of Rivia now has a new face. The Witcher season 4 can finally begin to definitively conclude the fantastic story.
Before we go any further, I highly recommend reading our Witcher Season 3 Ending Explained article to remind yourself what happened last time. The story is as complex and detailed as ever, and with Geralt, Yennefer (Anya Chalotra), and Ciri (Freya Allen) still separated, it gets more and more confusing.
However, this is not necessarily a bad thing. The Battle of Montecalvo has evolved into a death-defying duel for centuries, while new villain Leo Bonhart (Sharlto Copley) is more cruel and callous than any who came before him.

Hedda (Prime Video)
If you’ve ever read a Henrik Ibsen play and wished it was more like Emerald Fennell’s Salt burnyou’re lucky. Director Nia DaCosta reimagined Hedda Gabler for the modern era, including The Bridgerton Chroniclesstylish casting, a lesbian love triangle and a domestic world where women rule all.
Everything is incredibly cool and calculated, which means Hedda This might be the most fun I’ve had with a Prime Video movie all year (read my Hedda review for more). Tessa Thompson might take our main character to new heights, but it’s Nina Hoss’ gender-swapped Eileen Lovborg who steals the show. If you loved him in Taryou will love this.
That’s five feature films for DaCosta in as many years, and that alone is incredibly impressive. I can’t help but think we’re collectively sleeping on his talent and vision, and if his next projects are anything like this Amazon Original, I’ll be first in line. – Joint venture
Star Wars: Vision Volume 3 (Disney+)
The latest Star Wars offering of 2025, the third season of this Disney+ anthology series delivers more suspenseful, funny, and heartbreaking stories via various beautiful animation styles.
Like his ancestors, Star Wars Visions Volume 3 includes nine episodes – they’re all available to watch right now, FYI – that cover the breadth of Lucasfilm’s iconic galaxy far, far away. Three of this season’s entries are also sequels to Volume 1’s chapters, so one of the latest installments of the best Disney+ shows won’t be entirely self-contained tales. Hopefully subsequent episodes of Volume 3 won’t feel too *ahem* forced story-wise. – TP
Ballad of a Little Gambler (Netflix)
Is there anything Colin Farrell can’t do? Considering how charming he is as drug addict gambler Lord Doyle in Ballad of a Little Playeraka one of the last new Netflix movies of October, I vote no.
This is a film that emphasizes visuals, cinematography, and sound design, and I would expect nothing less from director Edward Berger. If you’re expecting anything like his previous work in Conclave Or All is calm on the Western FrontHowever, think again. It’s much more personal and meditative, and we see Doyle spiral as his bad decisions catch up with him. It might kill him to try to escape, which is the crux of the perspective-shifting drama.
It’s also an opportunity for Tilda Swinton to show off another accent in her arsenal as she pursues Doyle around Macau to hold him accountable for his actions. Stick it on Netflix as soon as you read my Ballad of a Little Player goodbye. – Joint venture
On the Road to the Cemetery (Apple TV)
Slow horses Season 5 may be over this week, but Apple TV isn’t letting fans of British spy shows starve, as it has released the first two episodes of a new eight-part series adapted from another Mick Herron novel.
Storming out of the gate with the same edgy humor and detective mysteries found in the author’s Slough House books, Down the cemetery road sees Dame Emma Thompson as a foul-mouthed private detective, whose normally tedious workload takes an exciting turn when a house explodes in a quiet Oxford suburb.
Knowing Herron, I have no doubt that there will be plenty of twists and turns to unpack in the coming weeks, as espionage, kidnappings, cover-ups and conspiracies converge in what could be another great Apple TV Original. – Amelia Schwanke, Entertainment Editor
Sorry, Baby (HBO Max)
A24 has a real gift for making me cry and Sorry, baby is no exception. Even though I expected deep themes and big emotions from the studio, this was a film that still stunned me in the best way possible.
This dark comedy film, now available on HBO Max, follows a lonely college professor who struggles with depression after a traumatic incident. It’s a show that’s challenging at times, but also very cathartic, and lead actress Eva Victor delivers a remarkable performance in one of the highest-rated films of 2025. If you’re in the mood to feel a lot this weekend, so you should take a look. – kg
