The NBA champion, Tristan Thompson, joins forces with unlikely CEO Herman Narula and the co-founder Hadi Teherany to deploy a new web3 experience designed to reinvent the basketball fandom for the digital era.
The project, named basketball.fun, will make its debut in October before the NBA season and will try to gamify the way fans interact with players and games, Thompson announced.
It was developed on the Somnia, a layer 1 blockchain that was put online at the start of this month, has already scored billions of dollars in negotiation volume during its first two weeks.
“This is how we are living together, it’s not just basketball,” Tristan Thompson said in a press release. “We create something for fans who live beyond the game, where your presence, your passion and your game are really important.”
NBA tokenized players
Unlike traditional fantastic sports or fans, the platform goes tokenize NBA players with values that fluctuate in real time depending on feeling and performance. Fans will be able to assemble lists, speculate on the rise in talents and earn rewards linked to their predictions and their commitment.
“The way fans appreciate and perceive players should be different from the owners and news networks,” said Teherane in an interview with Coindesk. “We are trying to return power to the fan – not only to predict who they think they are great, but to gain incentives. Imagine being able to prove that fans’ consensus on the potential of a recruit is more precise than the front office of a team.”
The Teherane stressed that the application will not be launched with a native token, distancing from projects like Socios who depend on the price of the token. Instead, players will hold a value in the application that reflects the feeling of fans and game results.
Why Somnia, not Solana?
When asked why the team chose to rely on the Somnie instead of more established channels like Solana or Avalanche, Teherantia highlighted relations and philosophy.
“Everything in this industry comes from authentic relationships,” he said. “When we met Herman Narula, it was an alignment of vision. It does not continue to threw media in the short term, but undertakes to create long -term sports and entertainment.
The decision also occurred after the learned lessons of a previous project, Tracyai, which, according to Teherantia, has become too dependent on the performance of tokens. This time, emphasis is on infrastructure, gamification and sustainability.
The technical advantage of Somnia
The Somnia was put online on September 2, following a six -month test which processed more than 10 billion transactions and integrated 118 million portfolios. Supported by an improbable United Kingdom-based metavese company, the network is positioned as the fastest EVM compatible chain, claiming to manage more than a million transactions per second with a finality below the second.
During the launch, the Somnia integrated 60 validators, including Google Cloud, and has integrated in protocols like Layerzero, Sequence and Thirdweb. Its native token, Somi, has almost doubled since its launch and has already deals with billions of daily volumes.
For teherantia, the traction of the Somnia adds credibility: “They made billions of daily volumes, larger than some of the major exchanges. It is a testimony to what they build – and what we are building in addition. ”
Tip to the tip
The first major revelation of the project is scheduled for the Morea Blockchain Week, where Thompson will share his vision alongside Narula and the Teheranto. The participants of Somnia House, the flagship event of the network in Seoul on September 23, will receive an early overview of the application and the roadmap.
“We want to make this as accessible as possible,” said Teherane. “The blockchain layer should be invisible. Whether you are from Crypto or just a basketball fan, you can join, play and help define the story of the sport.”
