- The new Xbox in full screen of Microsoft is already available on the Asus Rog Ally via Windows 11 25H2 Overview and bypass solution
- The new full screen experience is exclusive to ROG Xbox Ally until a 2026 possible deployment to other devices
- Performance increases compared to Windows 11 normal desktop mode are obvious
It’s been a long time, but Microsoft is clearly in competition with Steamos de Valve with its new Xbox full screen experience. The user user interface for the game is a timed exclusivity for the Rog Xbox ally, but we have already seen what it has to offer on other devices.
As indicated by our friends from Windows Central, Asus Rog Ally can now perform the new full screen experience, with obvious performance increases compared to Windows 11 desktop mode. It is available via a guide on Reddit (which requires changes to the overview and Windows 11:2 hour register), long before its official version on the new Rog Xbox.
This is significant because Microsoft has clearly indicated that a deployment to other pocket computers will occur in 2026, after its launch on Rog Xbox Ally. The latter has a chance to become one of the best portable game PCs, even if I am not excited about this for reasons similar to my colleague Rhys Wood. However, some users were able to outstand the curve.
Windows Central also highlights the many background processes operating on Windows 11 desktop mode, which considerably increases the use of the processor and RAM while being inactive, ultimately compromising play performance with lower image frequencies. On full screen experience, the number of background services is reduced, leading to much lower resources consumption.
To watch
In Shadow of the Tomb Raider,, By operating on the full screen experience, Windows Central managed an average of 38 images per second, while the Windows 11 desktop mode supported an average of 29FPS, showing a performance loss of 26% when using Windows 11 as normal (highlighted in the Youtube video above).
It should be noted that if you already deactivate the start-up applications, eliminate the background services, or better still, use Tiny11 (which comes without Bloatware Windows 11), you will probably not notice any performance gain when you go to the full screen experience. And it’s obvious in Windows Central Doom: dark ages Test on both modes, each with eliminated start -up applications, that the performance results are the same.
Perhaps what is more important, however, this is how the full screen experience would affect desktop PCs, but it seems that it does not yet work, using the Reddit bypass. Nvidia equipment (which I use) does not play well with Steamos in game mode, so I look forward to this full screen experience alternative and its potential on the desktop side.
Analysis: Steamos and Bazzite are always too strong against Windows 11
Having used the Asus Rog Ally with installed Bazzite, and the Lenovo Legion goes with an official Steamos license, I am always very doubtful that Microsoft’s efforts win me or most of the fans.
It is still early for Microsoft, because the full screen experience is not even officially available yet, but that does not mean that I cannot note that a lot of work must be done to make up for Steamos.
Valve’s work on Steamos’ user interface has done wonders for the steam game, and now Lenovo Legion Go users. Unless Microsoft offers updates and coherent management in the same way, I expect it to be long before Microsoft can even get closer to Steamos.
It should also be noted that Bazzite (a steamos clone) is available for a greater variety of pocket computers and even desktop games, because Steamos has only the official support for the Steam bridge and the Legion Go S. and since Microsoft’s full screen experience will not officially reach other sleeves until 2026, this will probably leave most of the alternatives.
