But Netflix hopes to improve the personalized experience even further, by offering movie or TV show trailers more tailored to your tastes.
We all know that the viewing library can be overwhelming, and even if you check out our lists of the best Netflix shows and best Netflix movies, it can still be difficult to choose what to watch. Netflix hopes to improve the experience by drawing viewers into trailers that are tailored to them, instead of offering the same one to everyone. Instead of focusing on one big show, let’s say Squid game season 2, viewers would instead watch trailers based on their own viewing history.
How does Netflix plan to offer personalized trailers?
To further explain this, the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) released a 24-page document detailing Netflix’s plan. This system would select different clips and arrange them in a personalized order based on what it thinks you would like, based on your viewing history and the titles you “liked.” It would then create a “playgraph” which determines the order in which these clips are played.
To keep this chart relevant, it will evolve over time based on what you liked. So if you’ve been watching a lot of comedy movies lately, you’ll notice that you’re being shown more comedy titles. This would learn from you and improve your experience, in theory.
It’s all part of Netflix’s plans to help you navigate its ever-expanding library, with this news coming after Netflix tested major changes that will make finding new movies and shows much easier this summer.
