Sony announced The God Killera new steampunk fantasy role-playing game (RPG) from My time at Portia studio, Pathea Games.
Available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and PC, The God Killer is an Eastern-inspired third-person open-world game featuring customizable elemental combat and a 40-hour campaign set in a world ruled by gods known as the Celestials.
“Long ago, the divine Celestials created the human world and all living beings within it, designing everything to cultivate a powerful force known as ‘Qi’ to fuel their eternal life. In this new era, humanity has learned to channel that same qi energy into elemental powers, wielding fire, water, earth, metal, and wood through a fluid martial art,” the description reads.
“Outraged that their divine energy was being used by mere mortals, the Celestials set a brutal example of humanity by conquering the most powerful kingdom in the land in a single night – hunting down and killing the kingdom’s king and Elemancers. An event known as the Divine Fall.”
In the story, you play as an Elemancer, an elemental magic user named Cheng, who embarks on a journey to defeat the Celestials after losing his family. A new CGI trailer has also been released, which you can watch below.
Look on it
First revealed as part of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s China Hero Project at ChinaJoy in 2023, The God Killer is much darker in tone than Pathea’s previous life simulation games.
Featuring free-form RPG gameplay, the game also offers fully customizable elemental abilities that allow players to combine water, earth, metal and fire to create powerful attacks and weapons, an explorable capital and urban metropolis named Zhou, missions that can be approached in multiple ways, factions and much more.
“Thematically, The God Killer is a big departure from what Pathea is known for, namely the My Time series,” said Zifei Wu, founder and creative director at Pathea. “However, we have already created several open-world RPGs, filled with beloved characters and diverse systems for players to experiment and grow with.
“The God Killer has all of this and more thanks to our talented development team attempting something darker and more serious, backed by exciting elemental combat at its heart.
The God Killer doesn’t have a release window yet, but it’s available as a wishlist on Steam.
