Ubisoft announced today that it has acquired the rights to the free-to-play multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game from Amazon, Giants Walk.
According to the press release, development of the game will now be continued by Ubisoft and the original team at Amazon’s Montreal Games studio, who are currently working on the Giants Walk‘ next large-scale update after the closed alpha of the game.
These developers are made up of a group of industry veterans, led by two former Ubisoft team members, including Alex Parizeau, senior production manager and former general manager of Ubisoft Toronto, who oversaw several major AAA productions, and creative director Xavier Marquis, who was the original creative director behind Rainbow Six Headquarters.
“Coming back to Ubisoft comes full circle,” Marquis said. “We’ve done some of our most significant work here, and we’re excited to continue developing March of Giants within Ubisoft. This game has enormous potential, and I know Ubisoft can help us take it to the next level.”
Giants Walk is a 4v4 tactical MOBA featuring real-time strategy and lane-based combat that places players in the role of a giant fighter on an urban battlefield, commanding battalions against much smaller enemies.
“My thanks go to Amazon for its commitment during the first chapters of Giants Walk“, said Parizeau. “Our closed alpha was an important milestone and showed a glimpse of the true promise of the game. Today, by joining Ubisoft, we unite behind a shared vision to build Giants Walk in one of the next great and enduring MOBAs.
The next major update is expected to introduce new giants, expanded competitive modes, add foundational systems designed to support long-term growth, and much more.
Yves Guillemot, co-founder and CEO of Ubisoft, added: “Giants Walk has a real opportunity to bring something new and dynamic to gamers and help Ubisoft compete in one of gaming’s biggest arenas. We look forward to welcoming back Alexandre, Xavier and several of the veterans Giants Walk who have previously worked at Ubisoft, and the ambition, creativity and talent of the entire team aligns perfectly with our desire to create bold new experiences for players. We look forward to supporting them as they shape the future of this promising new intellectual property. »
