ISLAMABAD:
Senior lawyer Babar Awan warned that if the “oppression” against PTI founder Imran Khan continued, his sons would likely return to the country.
He added that they had already applied for visas to return.
“There is a concern about the wires, because if [their] communication is permitted [with Imran Khan]they can come back. I share this concern. If these injustices continue, they will definitely return,” Awan said.
The senior lawyer was speaking to the media outside the Islamabad High Court.
He clarified that the PTI founder’s sons are not involved in politics. “By law, they should be allowed to speak to their father at least once a week, but months have passed without any communication,” he noted.
Awan slammed statements by two federal ministers who claimed the PTI founder would not be allowed to meet anyone before February 8, saying they had no legal authority to issue such directives. “Under the law, this amounts to two offenses: excess of authority and violation of the Constitution,” he said.
He explained that only the court, which sends a prisoner to prison, and the prison authorities have the legal right to regulate or authorize visits. “No one else has this authority. Why did these ministers block the meetings?” » he questioned.
Referring to Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif’s prison period, Awan said they had meetings in the jail cells, with “50 visitors” allowed at a time in NAB custody. “The only fear seems to be that of the PTI founder,” Awan said.
