- Gemini for Google TV adds new visual and voice features
- Users can remix personal photos, create AI-generated videos, and explore complex topics with narrated deep dives.
- Update will debut on TCL TVs first
Google TVs upgrade Gemini AI assistant with many new features. The company introduced the revamped version of Gemini for Google TV at CES this year, saying Gemini will be much more than just a way to find shows by voice. Google aims to make Gemini a full-fledged conversation partner when you look at the screen.
The update is rolling out first to select Google TCL TVs. The new version of Gemini will be more visual and interactive. You will be able to get complete answers to the questions, supplemented by images and videos. There’s even a new “Deep Dive” experience for very tricky queries that will incorporate AI narration and interactive visuals.
The upgrade will also help Gemini solve your daily TV annoyances. If your screen seems too dark or the dialogue is drowned out by music, you can mention this to the AI, and it will automatically correct the sound or brightness. This alone may be the killer feature for those who don’t want to pause a movie to go through the settings menu.
On a personal level, Gemini will also be able to search your Google Photos library from your TV, allowing you to pull up photos and albums on demand. Google Photos’ Photos Remix feature will also be available if you want to give them an AI-powered filter.
If you prefer to create a photo from scratch, Gemini on Google TVs will also have access to the new Nano Banana picture model, and you can simply ask the TV to take or edit photos with your voice. The same goes for making short videos by querying Google Veo. These are essentially the same tools you can use on your phone or computer.
Gemini TV
Google seems to want Gemini on your TV to understand exactly what you’re doing and help you do it faster and better. For the average person, that might just mean knowing sports scores in real time or explaining science to your kids without scrolling through menus or fiddling with apps.
Most of the time, it seems like Google wants Gemini to be everywhere, on all your screens, and to be the go-to tool at all times, including when you’re watching TV. Integrating Gemini into TVs will serve as a test of how well AI assistants like Gemini work when integrated into the background of a home.
Gemini may or may not become the trusted TV companion that Google is aiming for, but it appears there will be another arena of competition between AI and smart home platforms. right on your biggest screen.
