COAS emphasizes modern policing and public trust

RAWALPINDI:

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defense Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir on Tuesday highlighted the importance of inter-agency cooperation, modern policing practices and strengthening public confidence in law enforcement personnel.

During a visit to the National Police Academy (NPA) in Islamabad, Field Marshal Asim emphasized that a strong, professional and people-centric police force is essential to ensure internal security and uphold the rule of law.

“The duty of the police to uphold law and order is a sacred mandate, and the armed forces will always stand with the brave and proud police personnel of Pakistan,” Field Marshal Asim was quoted as saying by Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) while addressing senior police officials.

The ISPR said the Army chief recognized the supreme sacrifices made by police personnel in the face of terrorism, crime and internal security challenges. He also received a briefing on the School for High Impact Law Enforcement Development (SHIELD), as well as ongoing training programs and initiatives aimed at capacity building and modernization of the police.

During his interaction with Deputy Superintendents of Police (ASP), Marshal Asim highlighted the pivotal role of police as the first line of defense in safeguarding lives, property and honor of citizens, the ISPR said.

Addressing Inspectors General of Police (IGPs), other IGPs and other senior officers, he again emphasized the need for effective inter-agency coordination, adoption of modern policing methods and sustained efforts to build public confidence in law enforcement institutions, the statement added.

On this occasion, senior police leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening policing standards, building professional capacity and pursuing the institutional reforms necessary to address contemporary security challenges.

Earlier, Field Marshal Asim was warmly welcomed by the NPA Commander on his arrival. A contingent of police officers in attendance presented a guard of honor. He also placed a floral wreath at the police martyr monument and offered Fateha.

Paying solemn homage to the Shuhada of Police, Marshal Asim paid tribute to those who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty while preserving peace, upholding the rule of law and ensuring public safety across the country, the ISPR said. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry were also present during the visit, the statement added.
