- Sonos’ new Amp Multi is a sign that app issues “have been resolved”
- Hardware launches will ‘accelerate’ in second half of 2026, report says
- Sonos wants customers to love it again
Sonos has just announced its first new products since the end of 2024: the new Amp Multi amplifier for professional installations. This isn’t just a new Sonos product: it’s a new dawn for the company. That’s what Sonos insiders are telling Bloomberg, which reports that Sonos believes its app-related shenanigans have come to an end.
Sonos “believes that the majority of bugs and issues that formerly affected its mobile app have been resolved,” and the launch of the Amp Multi marks the end of “an intentional lull in product launches…Hardware launches will accelerate in the second half of its 2026 fiscal year.”
It’s worth noting here that Sonos’ fiscal year ends in September. So it looks like the next eight months could be busy for Sonos fans.
What’s the story behind Sonos’ new hardware projects?
As far as we know, only one planned product, Sonos’ streaming video player, was canceled outright – but other products had been rumored and failed to appear. And Sonos executives had talked about launching at least two new products per year, and that certainly wasn’t the case in 2025.
Sonos’ woes stemmed from its ill-fated app upgrade, a PR disaster that was still brewing in early 2025: The upgrade turned out to be a downgrade for many users, and many of Sonos’ most ardent defenders were extremely unhappy about it.
Then-CEO Patrick Spence was replaced by new CEO Tom Conrad in January 2025, who said “we’ve let far too many people down” and promised “to get us back on track.” [by] returning to the innovation that is at the heart of Sonos’ incredible story. » The Amp Multi is the first new product from Sonos on its watch.
The Amp Multi isn’t made for people like me — it’s a pro-level product for high-end setups — but it indicates that Sonos is back in the ring, and that’s reason to be optimistic. Conrad said his goal is to get Sonos customers to expand their Sonos investments, and to do that, you have to make those customers happy.
As we reported last year, Sonos had the best word of mouth in tech; it seems Conrad intends to make this happen again.
