50 Cent epitomizes pettiness in his latest Superbowl TV spot for a local delivery service, taking aim at fellow rappers including imprisoned Sean “Diddy” Combs.
Besides Diddy, Ja Rule is the other rap royalty the new ad mocks, while boxer Floyd Mayweather is also on the hit list.
The self-proclaimed “King of the Trolls” stars in the ad titled “Beef 101 with 50 Cent,” filled to the brim with multiple references to his most high-profile conflicts.
So, what is the real “beef” behind each of the elements presented in the new plug? Here is a brief summary.
50 Cent vs. Floyd Mayweather
The first item taken out of the bag by 50 Cent is an alphabet learning book, which could be a reference to Floyd Mayweather, since the rapper had already ridiculed the boxing champion by accusing him of being illiterate.
He further mocked Mayweather by donating $750,000 to a charity of his choice, challenging him to read a single page of a book. Harry Potter book.
The two were once great friends, but reportedly had a fallout in 2012 due to a financial partnership.
50 Cent vs. Diddy
Without doubt the Candy store The hitmaker’s most famous problem is that of Diddy, who is currently serving a prison sentence in New York. It is therefore logical that most of the elements presented in the advertisement refer to him.
The first reference is cheese puffs, Diddy’s former stage name being Puff Daddy. He further pulled combs out of the bag, a direct reference to the disgraced rapper’s last name. While the final reference was a bottle of cognac, aged “4 years or 50 months”, as long as Diddy’s planned prison sentence.
50 Cent vs. Ja Rule
Finally, 50 Cent was also seen releasing an alarm clock, saying, “I’m always on time.”
This was likely a reference to Ja Rule’s 2001 hit, Always on time.
While it’s not exactly a dig, the reference is important since 50 Cent’s longest running feud dates back to one with Ja Rule, which began in 1999 after one of the former’s friends stole from the other.
