- A new TV spot for The Mandalorian and Grogu was shown during the 2026 Super Bowl
- It’s a parody of old Budsweiser Clydesdale commercials.
- Star Wars fans have largely reacted negatively to the film’s latest teaser
A new teaser for The Mandalorian and Grogu has been released online – and it seems most Star Wars fans aren’t impressed with what they saw.
The 30-second TV spot originally aired during one of the many commercial breaks for the 2026 Super Bowl before being uploaded to the various Star Wars social media channels. And, although it was meant to parody the Budweiser Clydesdale commercials narrated by actor Sam Elliot, who returns to voice this teaser, it was not well received by certain sections of the sci-fi franchise’s fan base.
Look on it
As fun and arguably creative as this TV spot is, longtime fans of the Lucasfilm property have had plenty to say since its release, with talk of r/StarWars and r/StarWarsLeaks, as well as a quick scan on social media platforms like X/Twitter, showing a wave of negative reactions to the teaser.
Why are Star Wars fans so annoyed by The Mandalorian and Grogu’s TV spot?
Disney spent a lot of money on this #TheMandalorianAndGrogu commercial as a big game spot? 😵💫#SuperBowl #SuperBowlLX pic.twitter.com/8zw0XdWt3rFebruary 9, 2026
To begin with, the film, which picks up some time later The MandalorianThe third season of has ended on Disney+, it will be released soon.
First announced as a big screen sequel to The Mandalorian mid-2024, the Pedro Pascal-starring film is set to hit theaters on May 23, 2026. However, despite being released in just over three months, we’ve only seen one main trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu – and this came out last September.
So you can understand why, when Deadline reported that Disney would show new footage during this year’s Super Bowl, fans were relieved and/or excited — at least until many of them saw the aforementioned TV spot, which reportedly cost $10 million to air at Super Bowl LX.
“What’s going on with the Lucasfilm marketing team?” X/Twitter user Shawn Nicholson wrote. “They’re going to have another one Solo on their hands if they don’t fix this soon. Nobody talks about it, and those who do Mando season 4. They need a proper trailer that gets people excited! »
“The first Star Wars movie in 7 years comes out in three months and this is what they’re releasing at the Superbowl?” Redditor SWFT-YouTube said: “Yes, it’s a funny ad, but come on.”
“I love #TheMandalorianAndGrogu Super Bowl commercial,” mused @OutlawNoah. “But it’s worrying that they don’t really seem eager to reveal more footage. They’re promoting this movie like it’s a Disney+ series. That’s NOT the right way.”
This looks like an AI Coca-Cola ad that will come in the form of a cross promotion. Not the movie itself. This movie is dead on arrival 😅 #StarWars #deadonarrivalpic.twitter.com/URfQkP8iEIFebruary 9, 2026
“Well the marketing for this movie continues to be terrible,” said Reddit user vader602, before his colleague Billyb311 added: “The movie comes out in 3 months and this is the best one we have?”
Back on X/Twitter, Tom Bacon wrote: “Does Lucasfilm think Grogu is that big? Is #TheMandalorianAndGrogu a guaranteed success, or is the marketing team asleep at the wheel? SERIOUSLY concerned about this ridiculous Super Bowl slot,” while Max Kirchi said, “I don’t know what to think about it. It’s creative, but it’s not something that really generates hype. I don’t have a good feeling about this. [Star Wars:] Starfighter probably would have been the best choice for the return of Star Wars.”
Some took the teaser literally and yet had nicer things to say about it.
Redditor Acceptable-Slide9024 wrote, “I thought this was funny and was going to be the Budweiser ad with the horses,” while taco-force said, “I’m kinda here for the audacity of this ad.” Meanwhile, on Social Media Marketing “Experts”: “Disney doesn’t know what they’re doing. » »
Summing up those who saw the ad for what it was, Reddit user macmillianwinduarte simply added: “You’ll hate anything lol.”
