As Bitcoin (BTC) Price Continues to Fall, Industry Figures Say It’s Time to Buy: Crypto Daybook Americas

By Francisco Rodrigues (All times ET unless otherwise noted)

Bitcoin fell for a third straight day after failing to stay above $70,000 during the weekend rally as spot trading volumes declined and the Crypto Fear and Greed Index held in “extreme fear” territory.

The broader crypto market cap has fallen to around $2.28 trillion, with the CoinDesk 20 Index (CD20) losing 3.4% over the past 24 hours. Despite this, on-chain data aggregator Glassnode described the pullback as modest by past standards, with no signs of panic selling seen during previous cycle peaks.

Despite falling volumes and poor sentiment, inflows into spot Bitcoin ETFs have been steady over the past three days, helping to absorb some selling pressure. The market is now in a price discovery phase, according to Wintermute.

“With spot volumes still relatively low, leverage is driving short-term moves, as illustrated by BTC’s rally from last Friday’s lows on heavily crowded perp shorts,” Wintermute office strategist Jasper De Maere wrote in an emailed note. “It is likely that the market will continue to move within this range as it is still in the price discovery phase.”

The main figures seem to remain optimistic. Speaking at Consensus Hong Kong, Tom Lee, Chief Investment Officer of Fundstrat and Chairman of Ether Treasury firm BitMine Immersion (BMNR) told investors they should look for entry points rather than trying to predict a bottom.

On CNBC, Michael Saylor, executive chairman of treasury firm Bitcoin Strategy (MSTR), reiterated his long-term bet on the cryptocurrency, saying he expects it to outperform traditional stocks despite the pullback.

Weak U.S. retail sales slightly boosted expectations for U.S. interest rate cuts and weighed on the dollar. Attention will now shift to current non-farm employment figures and inflation data, which could further influence risk appetite. Stay vigilant.
