- Insta360 CEO Unveils Luna Vlogging Camera at Annual Conference in China
- “Luna” has two lenses and an apparent modular design
- It is scheduled to launch in the first half of 2026, priced between $499 and $699.
Insta360 CEO Liu Jingkang dropped something of a bomb at the company’s annual conference this week by unveiling the Insta360 Luna, the company’s first pocket-sized gimbal camera. Liu emphasized that the device is “definitely not another pocket camera,” which tells us exactly what Insta360 has in its sights: DJI’s wildly popular Osmo Pocket series of stabilized vlogging cameras.
Scheduled to arrive in the first half of 2026, the Luna enters a market that DJI has dominated for years. But rather than simply emulating the formula that made the Osmo Pocket 3 a success, Insta360 appears to be taking a different approach, centered around a dual-camera setup.
👉Well, @Insta360 has taken a step forward with its new camera. Commendable. Hopefully @DJIGlobal has refined the Pocket 4 series, and we won’t be ashamed of it.)#insta360luna #djipocket4 pic.twitter.com/KaRJbITNi3February 11, 2026
Two cameras are better than one
Yes, the most obvious difference between the Luna and the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 lies precisely on the face of the former: it sports two cameras instead of one. This dual-lens design opens up intriguing performance possibilities. I say “intriguing” because, well, we don’t know exactly how the dual-camera setup will work.
Insta360 has yet to reveal the full specs, but if I speculate, the dual-lens setup suggests potential for improved depth sensing, better subject tracking, and creative shooting modes that simply aren’t possible with a single camera. It should be noted that rumors regarding the specifications of the next DJI Osmo Pocket 4 suggests it will launch with a single camera module, with a dual-camera “Pro” version possibly arriving later.

If the Luna hits the market first with two cameras out of the box, it’s a real step up in the features department – and one that might appeal to content creators looking for something beyond the standard vlogging camera formula.
Beyond the two cameras, the Luna looks set to embrace a modular design philosophy that contrasts with DJI’s more rigidly integrated approach. Previous leaks on The New Camera suggest interchangeable components and batteries, which could make Luna more adaptable over time – although I’ll need to see the final product to judge whether this adds real value or just complexity. I would also expect the wireless Insta360 Mic Air to be fully compatible with the Luna, similar to how the DJI Mic series works with the Pocket series.
Can Insta360 compete with DJI’s empire?
Insta360 enters a market where DJI is the undisputed leader. The Pocket series is loved by vloggers and content creators for good reasons: refined stabilization, excellent image quality, and a mature accessory ecosystem.
Expected to land between $499 and $699 (£370 to £515), the Luna should be priced competitively with the Pocket 3 and rumored to be Pocket 4. But price alone won’t win this battle; Insta360 will also need to deliver stabilization performance, image quality and software polish – areas where DJI’s years of refinement are truly revealing.
That said, Insta360 is not without its advantages. The company has proven it can compete with DJI in similar markets (and it already sells excellent gimbal-mounted stabilized cameras – they’re just webcams rather than handheld devices) and DJI’s current regulatory challenges in the US have created uncertainty for some buyers. If the Luna offers impactful dual-camera features and fits easily into the Insta360 ecosystem, I think it could appeal to both new buyers and creators looking for an alternative to the DJI Pocket series.
Competition is healthy, and it can’t hurt consumers if Insta360 shakes up a category that’s been relatively quiet since the arrival of the Pocket 3. Whether its dual cameras prove to be a game-changer or just a gimmick will depend on execution – something I won’t know until a review unit lands on my desk.
For now, vloggers and content creators have an interesting choice: stick with the proven DJI Pocket formula, wait to see what the Pocket 4 brings, or take a chance with Insta360’s two-eyed challenger.
