Police register kidnapping case after Canadian national allegedly goes missing in Lahore

The complainant states in the FIR that Hamza booked a taxi from a private company and left the house but did not return

Police have filed a case against unknown persons after Canadian national Hamza Ahmed was allegedly kidnapped from Defense Zone A of Lahore and have started an investigation into the incident.

Deputy Inspector General (Operations) Lahore Muhammad Faisal Kamran confirmed the incident and said investigations were underway from multiple angles and progress was expected soon.

He formed a special team under the supervision of SP Cantt Akhlaq Ullah Tarar Division. The team includes Defense Circle ASI and SHO Defense A Khurram Shehzad.

The police registered a case following the complaint of the victim’s friend Yousaf Rashid, under whose supervision Ahmed was staying.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), Ahmed arrived in Pakistan on February 13 for research work for his doctoral thesis and was staying at Rashid’s home in Defense A.

The complainant told police that Ahmed booked a taxi from a private company and left the house, but did not return.

Police said the team was examining CCTV footage and other evidence in a bid to find the abducted man.

Meanwhile, the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has expressed deep concern over reports that Hamza Ahmed Khan, a political science student at the University of Toronto, has gone missing in Lahore.

In a statement on X, HRCP said he was in Pakistan for field research when he allegedly went missing on February 19. Colleagues in Lahore claimed he was kidnapped by unidentified people.

“Hamza was visiting Pakistan for field research and his colleagues in Lahore claimed that he was kidnapped by unidentified people on February 19. The authorities must immediately trace him and ensure that he is found and returned home safely.”
