- The New Outlook unsubscription phase postponed from April 2026 to March 2027
- Microsoft wants to “continue to deliver key features and improvements”
- Businesses have also been given “the time they need to prepare” for the change.
Just weeks before the previously set April 2026 deadline, Microsoft announced that it would delay the opt-out phase for businesses to upgrade to the new Outlook by about a year, to March 2027.
The unsubscribe phase will see the new version of the email provider become the default through experience, but businesses may choose to opt out during this temporary phase as they work to roll out the update more effectively.
Microsoft admitted to extending the deadline in order to give customers more time while continuing to add missing features and various other improvements.

Businesses can delay Outlook upgrade for another year
“We are extending the opt-out deadline and providing a 12-month window while continuing to deliver key features and enhancements,” Microsoft said in an update claiming there was “strong and accelerated adoption” of the new Outlook.
“We continue to invest heavily in expanding capabilities and responding to feedback from customers who want to go further with the new Outlook,” the company added.
Although Microsoft has given businesses an additional twelve months, pushing back the opt-out phase for enterprise environments until March 2027, we have not received an end of support date for classic Outlook.
Separate documentation states that “existing installations of Classic Outlook via perpetual and subscription licenses will continue to be supported through at least 2029.”
Microsoft explained that migrated users can follow the app’s prompts for onboarding assistance, or they can revert to classic Outlook if necessary. However, while this may be an option at the moment, the company urges customers to prepare for the update rather than being pushed into it at the last minute.
