The legendary actress and iconic star who starred in the BBC drama Doc Martin died just days after celebrating her 38th birthday.
Actress and singer June Marlow, born as Jean Dike, died on February 22 at her home overlooking Sutton Harbor in Plymouth with her loved ones by her side.
Marlow’s daughter, Kate Van Dike, expressed gratitude to the hospice staff who allowed Jean to stay at home during her final days.
She remarked: “They treated Mom with such tenderness and recognized her as the most important person. We could never have taken care of her at home without their help.”
Despite aging more rapidly, Marlow chose not to dwell on his illness.
Kate added: “Mum didn’t want to focus on that. She was always looking forward and was always pragmatic and driven.”
Kate remembered the warmth that characterized Marlow’s personality and never disappeared and said: “Even at the end, she was still able to show her beautiful smile.”
Who was June Marlow?
Marlow became a household name after appearing on the BBC in a series of acclaimed productions spanning several decades.
Marlow was born on January 15, 1931 and was seen raised in the Barbican area of Plymouth.
Marlow’s hidden talent for the theater was recognized from an early age.
Teachers at the school noticed that she was a gifted actress when she began appearing in school Nativity productions, singing and entertaining her classmates with impressions of iconic artists, including Mae West.
Marlow, throughout his life, kept her alive, with her last television appearance being at age 85.
She played Ethela patient who fell and injured her hand on a rusty nail.
Marlow has appeared on several BBC programs including Jamaica Inn, The Pickwick Papersand children’s drama high MI.
However, Doc Martin made her a household name, where she starred alongside Martin Clunes.
