Real Madrid have released a remarkable official statement confirming that their record €150m (£129m/$173m) bid for Julian Alvarez has been rejected by rivals Atlético Madrid. The extraordinary announcement finally reveals the true identity of the mystery Galactico that club president Florentino Pérez promised to sign following his recent re-election campaign.
Real Madrid statement confirms Alvarez offer
Following growing speculation, Real Madrid have taken the highly unusual step of releasing an official announcement regarding their transfer activities today. The club have confirmed they saw a monumental €150m offer for Alvarez turned down by Atlético.
The club’s official statement read: “Real Madrid CF announces that following today’s Board of Directors meeting, it has made an offer of 150 million euros to Club Atlético de Madrid for the federative rights of the player Julian Álvarez. After examining and evaluating the offer, Club Atlético de Madrid expressed its gratitude for the proposal, made within the framework of the good relations between the two clubs, and rejected it, referring to the player’s release clause.”
Perez keeps his Galactico promise

The bold move comes directly following Perez’s re-election as club president on Sunday, after beating rival Enrique Riquelme. During his campaign, the 79-year-old pledged to spend heavily on a major goal.
Before the reveal, Perez told Spanish TV show Horizonte: “On Tuesday or so I’m going to make an offer to a major Champions League club for a big player. It would be the biggest transfer fee Real Madrid has ever paid in its history. We’re going to make a big offer, at least around 150 million euros. He has to be a midfielder who can move forward. And it’s not Haaland. The player is not from the Premier League. And the First thing we’ll do is talk to the club. It’s a signing to generate enthusiasm, because that’s what it’s about: generating enthusiasm.
Competing interests and complications of the release clause
Despite having identified their main target, Los Blancos face significant obstacles. The Argentine striker was initially thought to have a €500m (£431m/$577m) release clause in his contract with Atlético. However, reports indicate that his deal contains provisions for some Champions League teams, potentially allowing them to secure his services for more than €150 million.
Real Madrid are not the only European powerhouse pursuing the prolific striker, as Barcelona reportedly saw a €100 million bid rejected last week. For its part, the Santiago Bernabéu team also confirmed the departure of first team coach, Alvaro Arbeloa. They released a separate statement expressing their gratitude to the manager, paving the way for a sensational return from José Mourinho.
What’s next for Real Madrid?

Real Madrid must now decide whether to return with an improved offer or activate the release clause to force Atlético into a sale. With Mourinho looking set to take the managerial reins, the club will be desperate to finalize their squad rebuild. While Perez remains determined to bring a new superstar to the Bernabeu, fans can expect another massive offer very soon.
