- Windows 10 ESU will be available from November 2025 for three years
- It will cost $ 61 per year, prices doubling each year later
- Windows 10 is always preferred to Windows 11 by many users
With the official deadline for end -of -life Windows 10, Microsoft still hopes that users will choose to go to its flagship operating system, Windows 11, but it has also published a series of detailed notes how users can continue to use The old software.
A newly updated assistance document from the company detailed the Windows 10 Extended Safety Updates Program, including costs and eligibility.
Microsoft promises that its ESU will continue to provide “critical and important security updates” during a period after Windows 10 loses the support – but this will be at the expense of an annual subscription.
Windows 10 ESU details revealed
In the post, Microsoft revealed that the devices running Windows 10 10:2 p.m. will be eligible to participate in the ESU program, but stressing that this would only include significant security updates and not new features, updates excluding security, Design modification requests or general assistance.
Users can register for the ESU program via the Microsoft Volume license program, and this will cost $ 61 per device for coverage between November 2025 and November 2026. The ESU ends after three years. In other words, Windows 10 fans can be purchased for another three years of use in complete safety before being ultimately forced to run a potentially precarious operating system or go to Windows 11.
The company also added that ESUs are cumulative, so you will need to have bought the first year before going to the second year. If you decide at the start of the second year to obtain security updates, you can register retrospectively by paying the cover of the previous year.
“Windows 10 PCs will continue to work, but we recommend customers to upgrade eligible PCs to Windows 11 using Windows Autopatch, Microsoft Intune or go to a new Windows 11 PC for the best the most IT experience secure, “added the company.
The rose among the thorns is that Windows 10 virtual machines running in Windows 365 or Azure Virtual Desktop will obtain free safety updates.
However, even Microsoft’s best efforts have not dissuaded users from choosing to stay on Windows 10 – the almost depreciated operating system represents 60% of all Windows installations (via statcourter). However, the adoption of Windows 11 has slowly increased in recent months to a market share of 37%.
