The Ministry of Punjab inside has implemented changes in penitentiary regulations, allowing prisoners to serve sentences in their local areas, causing discussions on the question of whether this will affect the imprisonment of imprisonment of Imran Khan.
The ministry recently approved significant changes in penitentiary regulations, marking a key change in the management of people imprisoned in the province.
A meeting on Monday examined the reports on the implementation of these reforms, which include provisions aimed at improving the living conditions and the rehabilitation of prisoners.
One of the most notable changes is the new rule allowing prisoners condemned to serve their sorrows in prisons located in their indigenous regions. Previously, according to prison rules, criminals had to purge their sorrows in the prison in the area where the crime was committed.
However, revised regulations now make it possible to transfer criminals to their own districts, provided they are sentenced to Punjab.
An officer explained: “Although the rules are in place, the situation for very publicized cases like Imran Khan remains distinct. He had previously approached the court concerning this issue, but due to security problems, he did not obtain a transfer. Even after the rules change, if his permanent residence is still in Lahore, it is likely that his security needs will have priority. “”
Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Punjab in the Interior said that the new rules have been largely implemented, although each case involving prisoner transfers is evaluated individually.
“The ministry has received certain requests from criminals who wish to remain in their current prisons, and these requests are taken into account on a case-by-case basis, the contributions of the security agencies taken into account,” they added.
In addition to these changes, the ministry also introduced a significant change in the way in which the work of prisons is compensated. Under the new regulation, prisoners will no longer work for free.
Instead, prisons will now operate internal factories through public-private partnerships, producing various products. The products created will be sold on the market and income will be used to compensate the prisoners.
This marks the first time in the province that prisoners are paid for labor in the context of their sentence, an important step towards improving their prospects for well-being and rehabilitation while purging their time.
