- Report complaints only 18% of British consumers used an ESIM
- Growing opportunity for non -telecoms companies to enter the ESIM market
- 56% of British consumers prefer to use an ESIM to avoid roaming costs
A new survey by BICS suggested that ESIM awareness in the United Kingdom is quite low, with only 18% of respondents claiming to have used technology.
However, when the respondents were informed of the advantages of an ESIM for international travel, more than half (56%) said they would consider using an ESIM to avoid roaming costs.
Interestingly, out of the 2,100 British adults questioned, 31% replied that they would buy an ESIM from a retailer or a travel company. Non -telecomère brands have already started to capitalize on this trend, but consumer knowledge is low, 41% uncertain if their phone takes care of an ESIM.
The survey also suggests that even if ESIM awareness is low, ESIMS demand is up with consumers looking for profitable means of traveling.
“Esims is an opportunity that changes the situation for brands through travel, retail and beyond. Consumers are actively looking for profitable connectivity, and non-traditional suppliers with solid customers’ bases are in a position of choice to respond to this demand,” noted Surash Patel, Director of Revenues at Proximus Global.
We have seen an important influx of new ESIMs on the market, with non -traditional players leading the charge. NordVPN launched Saily Esim for business in September 2024. Shortly after, ExpressVPN announced its entry into the ESIM market with the launch of Holiday.com.
“With the right approach, companies can easily unlock new sources of income and improve customer loyalty by integrating ESIM into their offers,” said Patel.
