Despite a myriad of leaks and rumors surrounding the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge, the phone remains a relative mystery in official terms. We know his name, we know that he has two cameras, and we know that it is improbable, but in the months following its advertisement to Galaxy unpacked in January, Samsung has refrained from sharing, well, everything related to its alleged aerial competitor.
For the most part, this did not change at the MWC 2025, although in an exclusive interview with Techradar during the window based in Barcelona, the British marketing director of Samsung, Annika Bizon, revealed that the EDGE’s shape factor (it is to be measured only 5.84 mm thick) will not have come to the detriment of durability.
“I can’t say too much, but what I’m going to say is that [the Edge] concerns a beautiful factor of form. And there are two points that I want to do, ”said Bizon. “The first is that it is absolutely magnificent. And if you think of the technology that enters this size of the space, it’s quite impressive.
“The second thing I will say concerns sustainability. With something thin, sustainability [has to come as part of the package]. These are the two features [of the Edge] exciting [for us]. Well, I know that sustainability is not exciting – but it is really important. So look at this space, because there are exciting things to come about this phone. »»

OK, nothing revolutionary, but it seems that the edge will bring something new to the table concerning sustainability, which corresponds to a very specific rumor of design that we have already heard.
Depending on the reports, the Galaxy S25 EDGE could detach from the rest of the Galaxy S25 range using a ceramic rear panel instead of Gorilla Glass Vict 2. Ceramics is more difficult than glass, therefore a glass panel infused with ceramic or ceramic entirely in ceramic – crucial for a phone of its thickness Galaxy S25 is more resistant.
This would also explain why Samsung has maintained an approach “ ne’t don touch ” with the edge of both Galaxy Unbacked and MWC 2025, where the phone was exposed behind a barrier. Perhaps if the fans were allowed to become practical with the device, they would be able to feel the difference in rear panel equipment, which is probably something that Samsung wants to keep under the Wraps for a dedicated revelation event.
The other sustainability specifications for the edge include a water and dust resistance rating IP68 and aluminum sides, which would correspond to the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25 Plus. The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, meanwhile, uses Gorilla Glass Armor 2 and a titanium body.
Why Edge? Why now?
As of Why Samsung brings the Galaxy S25 Edge on the market this year – and in the process of shaking its proven products release strategy – Bizon puts it in an internal commitment to innovation and consumer interest for something new.
“The thing with thin phones,” she explains, “people want to know that they always get very good technology. Innovation is in our DNA. This is a good time, and when we think that a product is ready to take on the market, coupled with the fact that people want changes in form factor.
“We saw it with foldables. We are a brand for everyone. And being an open brand means you have to have technology for everyone. Some people do not want to change a flat phone; Some people like flip; Some people like the fold. There is something for everyone, and I think that’s where Samsung really opens the way. »»
Bizon concluded: “The edge is exciting because it is a new factor of shape that is quite sexy. It’s quite different. And it’s fun. It is also a fun thing to be able to market. It’s absolutely beautiful, I am super excited about this. “”
And with regard to the Tri-Fold, even secret of Samsung Galaxy: “I can really tell you nothing,” admits Bizon, “not unless you want someone to come and grab me by the neck.” Just say that we stopped the interview there.
