- Xbox tests a new feature known as Game Hubs
- It displays a single window dashboard for your game when you try to launch it
- Game centers are currently available for a small number of Xbox initiates
If you are part of the Xbox Insider program on Xbox Series consoles
As reported by VGC, Game Hubs appears for initiates when choosing a throwing game. The game centers are unique to the game you choose to play and appear as a kind of dashboard before launching the game.
The hub displays information, including total playing time and the achievements earned for each individual game. There are also tabs for quick access to DLC purchases and all the screenshots you have captured.
According to VGC, some hubs – like one for Disney Dreamlight Valley – can also show an “events” section that will detail the upcoming or current events. Presumably, these sections will appear in popular live service titles such as Monster Hunter Wilds Or Fortnite.
Currently, the functionality is only available for a selected number of Xbox initiates, and it is not yet known if or when it will take place in the wider Xbox user base.
Personally, it is a feature on which I have mixed feelings. It is certainly practical to have a one -shop dashboard for each game – PS5 games have a similar arrangement on the domestic dashboard.
However, I think that the implementation of the PS5 is less intrusive, because all this information is presented without opening a separate menu. I am not a big fan either to have a good part of the dashboard of the HUB Game dedicated to the display of the downloadable content.
It will be apparently on a game basis per game, and the game hubs seem by default on the “play” button without exception. So, at least, you can always jump directly in a game when implemented.
And with the way the Xbox dashboard is designed, it was probably the best way to add such a functionality without making a total revision of the user interface. For the moment, I will reserve the judgment until I try game hubs for me.
But I cannot shake the feeling that it will be a feature that I would like to deactivate fairly quickly.
