- New research from Randstad reveals that many technology workers have left their job in the past year
- It is thanks to difficult working conditions
- IT workers undergo significant pressure and stress and professional exhaustion
If you have already planned to leave a job that has become too demanding or authoritarian, you are not alone, because a new research affirms the inflexibility of employers with regard to the place, working hours and “work intensity” led 40% of British technology workers to leave last year.
A Randstad survey of more than 2,500 technological workers noted that two out of five respondents said that lasting line policies such as returning to office mandates and long hours of work imposed by employers had pushed them to resign in the past year, with more than half (56%) threatening to seek an alternative job if requests for flexibility were not satisfied.
The distant workers massively say that their arrangement increases their “community sense” with colleagues, and 68% say that if employers were more forgiving with hours, the intensity of work and remote work, they would trust them.
Industry burns
This research is not the first to suggest that the industry is in difficulty, previous surveys indicating a large part of IT workers feel exhausted or stressed (73%), with heavy workloads, tight deadlines and a lack of resources all contributing to the question.
The return to office controls swept the technology industry, companies like Dell and Amazon pushing for the end of remote work and hybrid. These policies are deeply unpopular to employees, which has made a lot of way to consider leaving their positions.
“Personalized work advantages and flexible options are essential not only to attract the best talents, but also to keep them in competitive markets,” said Randstad Digital Director Graig Paglieri.
“Policies should align with organizational needs, teams and individuals, guaranteeing a flexible and personalized approach.”
With a shortage of skills notorious in technology, the pressure is more than ever exerted on workers, which means that many are unhappy to work. That said, technology remains one of the industries with the best remuneration for workers, with a lot of high wages.
