- Microsoft has just blocked a popular bypass to install Windows 11 with a local account
- Some people like to avoid having a Microsoft account linked to the operating system due to confidentiality concerns (or others)
- Although alternative bypass solutions remain, it is likely that they could also be cut – and Microsoft is well on the wrong path here
Microsoft seems to move to block Windows 11 users who wish to install the operating system using a local account, which means that they want to avoid having to use a Microsoft account (and be online) when configuring the operating system.
Not everyone wants to link their copy of Windows 11 directly to their Microsoft account – or they may not even have such an account at all – and it is people who just want to use a local account (only linked to the PC itself).
While Microsoft officially deleted this choice of Windows 11 configuration experience some time ago, there was a commonly used bypass – but the software giant has just blocked this.
As Windows Central clearly shows, this deviation method around the requirement to use a Microsoft account was to draw the command prompt and enter ‘Oobe bypassnro‘- But in the latest previews of Windows 11, Microsoft has deleted this capacity. More specifically, it is a Build 26200.5516 preview, which is perhaps the first step on Windows 11 25H2, the big update of this year.
However, it is always possible to use this particular fudege in a different way – by modifying the register, as shown in the latest windows. It’s clumsy – and perhaps dangerous for less warned users of technology, because the register can spoil your system if you are wrong with your assembly – but fortunately, there is a better bypass.
Windows Central noticed that, as highlighted on X by Witherornot, there is a different order to make this particular tip. It is ‘MS-CXH: Localonly‘ And Again, this has entered the command prompt, which is reached by pressing onShift + F10‘ During the Windows 11 configuration process.
Find out how it works in the video clip on X below, but it is a much easier and more rationalized way to do that than the old method.

Analysis: Expect complete dams in place for a long time – but that should not happen at all
To summarize the current situation, there are still two ways (at least) that you can interrupt the configuration process of Windows 11 and install without using a Microsoft account, by simply operating with a local account instead (without link on the operating system in Microsoft, which some people prefer purely from a confidentiality point of view).
However – and it’s a big However – I fully expect Microsoft to block the alternative FIDGE register mentioned above fairly quickly. And it is likely that the other solution presented on X will be sent to the large cemetery of the Windows 11 bypass in the sky before a long time – now that it has become common. Well, maybe no public notoriety, but much better known, anyway.
Microsoft is likely to block all the avenues of the escape from his requirement to have a Microsoft account when installing Windows 11. Obviously, it is a global policy that is implemented, and I would expect it to be followed. Maybe not just as quickly, but I bet that when Windows 11 25:2:2 AM arrive, he will have some other of these blocks in place.
For those who really do not want a Microsoft account with their Windows 11 installation, there is probably only one action plan finally – simply to create a fake Microsoft account which is a virgin slate, that you do nothing. You can then create a local, post-establishment account of Windows, following Microsoft’s advice on how to do so (an assistance document which, very controversial, has disappeared for a while).
Complain about Microsoft Stamping Out These bypass solutions, however, lack the point. There should be no need for these fudges in the first place, because Microsoft should give us the freedom to choose if we want a local account or an installation linked to a Microsoft account, during the configuration of Windows (as was the case in the past).
Of course, Microsoft argues that having a linked account gives you a synchronization of its services (and your files) on the devices, and better security (OneDrive backups and others), but there are other ways to reach these ends in many cases. And it should be entirely the choice of the user – if I want a local account, I should be able to have one. I do not do it, as happens, but the fact is that there should be a freedom of choice here.
By all means, load this screen of choice with warnings warning less the technology users of the advantages on which they will miss due to not having a connected Microsoft account – but choose, please.
On a more serious note, there may also be technical Gremlins which interfere with the installation of Windows 11 when liaison at an online Microsoft account. At Techradar, we have experienced frustrating connection failures on revision equipment, for example, which meant that a local account was necessary To install the operating system (probably due to problems on the server side on the Microsoft part). In these scenarios, an option of local installation – or bypass – is not only pleasant to have, but in fact of crucial importance.
