Lahore:

About 44,000 public schoolchildren across the Punjab were abolished.

According to sources from the Punjab School Education Department, school outsourcing is the reason for the abolition of messages, because it is now up to private owners to hire lessons according to their policy.

On the other hand, teachers say that such a decision would lead to an increase in unemployment among the young people in the province.

The sources said that the ministry had decided to abolish more than 44,000 teacher and staff members in public schools in the province. The decision comes at a time when thousands of young graduates awaited recruitment in public schools.

Recruitment was made for the last time in 2018. Teacher unions have repeatedly asked for recruitment to fulfill vacancies over the past seven years, but governments have ignored their request.

Public schools were faced with serious problems due to the shortage of around 100,000 teachers.

The fact of not fulfilling vacancies has not only affected the education of a large number of students, but also caused discouragement among young people unemployed. “The Punjab School Education Department has decided to abolish around 44,000 jobs and transfer teachers from outsourced schools to other establishments,” said a senior official. About 15% of articles in the school education sector were abolished, in particular, including, according to available data, 43,960 positions in outsourced schools.

Until now, around 10,000 schools in the province have been outsourced and the decision has been communicated to the Department of School Education and to the Education Authorities for all districts, the official said.

The authorities have been informed that recruitment would not be done for outsourced schools and that teaching positions should be considered abolis.

An MPHIL student, Ammara Rasheed, said that when he was addressed to L’Express PK Press Club, described the decision to abolish shocking teaching positions. “We had long pinned hopes for the recruitment of teachers to be employed,” she said.

She said that a large number of qualified young people had crossed the age limit for recruitment over the past seven years.

However, the spokesman for the Ministry of Provincial Education, Noorul Huda, said that those who had regained control of the outsourced schools would recruit their teachers and that the positions had not been abolished.
