- Automatic regrowth functionality takes place on Android phones and tablets
- This will automatically restart your device after three days of inactivity
- Your phone is more secure after restarting, helping to prevent unauthorized access
Not long ago, we pointed out how Android could obtain a safety functionality for thieves already seen on iPhones, and now this feature is coming.
As spotted 9TO5GOOGLE, the last update of Google Play services includes a functionality that will automatically restart your phone or tablet after three days of inactivity. So, in other words, if your device has remained locked for three consecutive days, it will stop and restart, and there is a good reason for that.
You see, after a restart, a telephone or an Android tablet will return to its state “ `before the start ”, in which its data is encrypted and it is more difficult to unlock, because biometrics is deactivated until the first time that the first unlock – an access code is therefore necessary.
This is set up to occur after three days of inactivity, because it is likely that if your phone is on but is not used for three days, someone else has – like a thief.
Future
Google Play Services 25.14 (which contains this automatic feature) takes place now, but deployment can take about a week to reach all phones, and it is possible that the automatic recruitment feature may not be activated for a while after that, with 9to5google speculating that it could take a few weeks.
As such, we are not certain either that there will be a rocking or another option to activate this feature, or if it will occur automatically. We also don’t know if this feature will come to all Android devices, but it is likely that the most recent phones will support this.
So, even if that will not prevent your phone, you should at least soon be reassured that thieves will not be able to access your data.
