- Github CEO, Thomas Dohmke, defends the coding of education in schools
- Artificial intelligence is just to amplify human work, not to replace it
- The use of AI is just another pillar to continue to learn
Github belonging to Microsoft, which has introduced a series of powerful generative AI tools to its popular developer platform in recent years, still estimates that there is a place for the traditional code.
Speaking on a recent interview with the podcast with EO (via Initiate of Business), CEO Thomas Dohmke explained its conviction that schools should teach coding as they do other main subjects, such as physics, geography and mathematics.
Perfecting an early beginning, Dohmke thinks that children should learn coding from an early age, expressing their conviction that qualified developers are always in great demand despite the emergence of artificial intelligence.
Github pleads for the coding of education despite the AI
AI tools such as Github’s co -pilot and other popular chatbots, such as Chatgpt and Gemini, have democratized coding by making the development of software more accessible to all, which ultimately reduces the barrier to the entrance.
For experienced developers, small teams and even solo programmers can now unlock more scale, with AI releasing time which has been differently devoted to repetitive tasks that can now be automated.
With the emergence of technology, questions have been raised about the future of jobs in coding, with thinning teams potentially reducing job offers, but Dohmke does not seem to be concerned about this and always urges people to learn to code.
“Anxiety is understandable, but many times, the developers have discovered how to channel new capacities in whole areas of innovation that did not exist before,” he said, indicating that use cases are developing and that the need for qualified programmers is not tamed.
“You have to continue to train. You must continue to learn. You have never finished learning,” he added. By thinking about his three decades in the industry, Dohmke says that if he had stopped reading blogs and other literature, he would have been left behind. In this spirit, AI is really just an evolution of the role rather than the end.
