Pakistani railway police will have a complete digital transformation within three months as part of a new reform plan aligned with the Punjab police model, Inspector General Rai Muhammad Tahir said on Wednesday.

Addressing Express News, Tahir said that the railway police would create their own data server in collaboration with the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB).

All manual recordings will be gradually digitized, emphasizing transparency and efficiency.

“We assume the manual system. The objective is a modern and computerized police model,” IG said.

The new system will include strict procedural regulations. Service agents on flight sites or other incidents will be required to enter video evidence, which will be part of the digital case file. The officers arriving or leaving their obligation will be held responsible for the reports.

To strengthen the workforce, 500 new staff members have already been recruited, with plans to hire 1,000 others by December.

A security upgrade plan has also been developed. It includes the installation of surveillance cameras and safety equipment at 30 stations and 70 minor stations, with a total budget of RS3 billion.

In addition, 5 billion rupees were allocated to upgrading 50 police stations, and 8 billion additional rupes should be included in the federal development regimes of next year.

Tahir reiterated a strict position on internal responsibility, declaring that “there is no room for corrupt officers in the railway police”.

Investigators will receive three months of advanced training and the funds have been allocated to support an improvement in logistics and survey work.

“Over the next three months, you will see a clear transformation in the railway police,” he said.
