- Whatsapp commented on her new controversial assistant Meta Ai
- The messaging application says it is a “good thing” despite a mixed reception
- WhatsApp has separated a new confidentiality tool for advanced cat separately
WhatsApp defended the wider deployment of its Meta AI assistant inside the popular messaging application, despite certain important declines from users.
Earlier this month, Meta deployed the AI assistant – represented by a blue ring in the lower right corner of your WhatsApp cats – in several new EU, the United Kingdom and Australia countries.
Because WhatsApp is very popular in these regions – more than Apple Imessage tastes – there was a vocal reaction when it arrives on platforms like Reddit, especially since it is not possible to deactivate the functionality. But WhatsApp has now commented on these concerns for the first time.
In a statement to the BBC, WhatsApp said: “We think that giving people these options is a good thing and we always listen to the comments of our users”. He added that he considers that the functionality is similar to the other permanent features of the application, such as “channels”.
Although the Meta circle has flatten permanently in your discussion section, it does not really have access to your cats. Meta’s help pages indicate that “your personal messages with friends and family are prohibited”, while the Meta Ia Cat window indicates that “he can only read the messages that people share”.
However, some confidentiality problems remain, so this week WhatsApp has presented a new feature entitled “Advanced Chat Privacy” to help appease the remaining concerns.
An offer of privacy peace
Although it is not possible to deactivate Meta IA in WhatsApp (it is also now integrated into the application search bar), you will soon be able to use “advanced cat confidentiality” to prevent others from using your cats in other AI applications.
The new parameter, which is “taking place on all members of the latest version of WhatsApp”, is designed to prevent people from taking everything you share in WhatsApp outside cats and groups. When turned on, your friends and contacts are prevented from “exporting cats, download media automatically on their phone and using messages for AI features”.
We have not yet seen the functionality in action, but you can activate it by pressing a cat name, then by pressing the new option “Advanced Chat Privacy”. WhatsApp says that this is also the first version of the functionality, with more protections on the way to help you avoid a personal signalgate fiasco.
This is probably a more popular decision than Meta AI cooking in WhatsApp, although a recent survey on the WhatsApp Techradar channel shows that the latter has not been universally convicted.
While the biggest piece of our respondents in the survey (42%) said they would “never” use the assistant Meta Ai in WhatsApp, a significant number (41%) said they “can sometimes” sometimes type the blue ring, while 17%said they were planning to use Meta’s equivalent “regularly”. Shawshank redemptionWe will one day spend on it.
