Windows 11 received a hidden advantage with its latest update that arrived at the end of April, because Microsoft made a lot of more quickly to appear.
This advantage is granted by Patch KB50555627, the update of the Windows 11 24 -hour preview in April which is an optional download (which means that it is always in testing, then show caution around the installation, as for all that is not entirely finished).
File Explorer is the application that feeds the folders (and the inside files) with which you work on your desktop, and you have probably noticed that when you open a folder for the first time, it can be very slow to appear in Windows 11.
There are reasons for this slow initial load (to which I will come back), but as the latest Windows reports, File Explorer is now triggered much faster with the latest update of Windows 11.
The technological site provides some short video clips that have the difference. Before the optional update, Windows 11 opens the file explorer very Slancely indeed – the elements are visibly missing for several seconds – and after the window, the window is fully filled with the interface (and the “Home” tab) much more quickly.
Although the version of KB5055627 version do not mention any decision to improve File Explorer performance, Windows has contacted Microsoft and the company has confirmed that this update contains work for this purpose.
Analysis: faster, but still not enough catchy
Obviously, it is a positive development, but even in its new form considerably faster, File Explorer is still relatively slow to appear during the first two times that it is summoned in a session on your PC. There is always a notable break because the interface takes care, which is far from ideal. In short, it remains too slow in my books, even after these improvements.
Start the file explorer on my Windows 10 PC sees it appear immediately on the desktop, without break for breathing (barely). Access my Windows 11 laptop (without the latest update mentioned) and open a file explorer, and I am sitting in a drum by drumming my fingers as I am told that the operating system “ works on it ” in terms of developing the content of the window. (This message is literally presented in the window instead of a wheel of destiny or timer rotation).
So why are things so different in Windows 11? Well, as Windows explains, it is because Microsoft changed the fundamental parts of File Explorer in Windows 11, and DIY with the guts of the application means slightly longer loading times – composed by work on synchronization with the cloud. The result is that for some users, File Explorer can be boring (and this can be particularly frustrating for those who actively want any cloud integration).
This optional update is definitely a step in the right direction, the mind, but Microsoft always has a little work to do here. That said, I must also note that in general, I find that Windows 11 feels more snap and more responsive than Windows 10 in many ways, but certainly not with File Explorer (which was problematic from the start).
I would not advise the download of this (or no) corrective correction – which also packs the complete corrective of the blue screen accidents that some people have been struck – for reasons that I have already spent earlier this week. But rest assured that this faster file explorer should arrive with the next full fix for Windows 11, the cumulative update that will be published the following week on May 13.
