Pak, United Kingdom to counter illegal immigration

Islamabad:

Pakistan and the United Kingdom have agreed to improve their cooperation to combat illegal immigration, online harassment of children and other serious crimes.

The commitment was reaffirmed at a high-level meeting in Islamabad, chaired by the Minister of the Interior, Mohin Naqvi, where officials of the two countries have examined the progress of the program of serious crimes and application of the British-Pakistani law (high-end).

The meeting focused on examining the progress of the program. High -end managers, including Neil Fowler, Ken Daines, Habib Gul and Fizza Waheed, participated in the session with higher officers from the Ministry of the Interior and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

Participants examined the measures taken to resolve key issues such as illegal immigration, children’s online harassment, mutual legal aid, extradition, criminal record, illegal funding and anti-narcotic measures.

The Minister of the Interior underlined the need for stronger coordination and joint actions to limit illegal immigration and drug trafficking. “Illegal immigration is an absolute priority and coordinated efforts must be made to prevent it,” he said.

The Minister also stressed the importance of firmly treating children’s online harassment. “Immediate and strict measures should be taken in such cases, and all available resources will be used to protect children online,” said Naqvi.

To tighten border control, Naqvi has announced that the expelled persons involved in illegal migration would now be included in the passport control list for five years. The proposal to add sex offenders to this list is also under study.

Recognizing the support of the United Kingdom, Naqvi welcomed a continuous collaboration. “Mutual cooperation is essential to combat illegal immigration. We appreciate British aid in this regard,” he noted. He also underlined the improvements to the rules of mutual legal assistance between the two countries, which have led to more effective results.

The meeting was informed of the progress of the high -end program, including the operational status of a dedicated delivery unit and the creation of the first register of sex offenders in Pakistan.
