Pakistan remains attached to a cease-fire agreement, Iranian President told

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian held a telephone conversation on Saturday, during which the first reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to maintain the cease-fire agreement with India, while also affirming the country’s unshakable resolution to defend its sovereignty and its territorial integrity at all costs.

Pakistan and India were on the verge of large -scale war following the recent climbing triggered by the pahalgam incident. With high tensions, Iran has proposed mediation, while several world powers also intervened to help defuse the crisis.

According to an official statement issued by the Prime Minister’s office, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed a profound appreciation of Iran’s diplomatic efforts to defuse tensions in South Asia.

During the conversation, the Prime Minister prolonged his property for the Iranian supreme chief of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and thanked Tehran for his sincere role and brother in the promotion of peace in the region.

Supporting Iran’s diplomatic efforts, Prime Minister Shehbaz specifically underlined the Iranian president’s appeal last month and the deployment of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Abbas Araghchi in the region during the crisis with India, recognizing significant gestures of solidarity and support.

Sentenced unlikely attacks from India, which led to the death of innocent civilians, including women and children, the Prime Minister stressed that the courageous armed forces of Pakistan gave a responsible and suitable response to the assault. He reiterated that Pakistan remains an ardent defender of peace and, in this spirit, has accepted an understanding of the ceasefire with India-an agreement that the country remains determined to maintain.

By reaffirming Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity at all costs, the Prime Minister also raised concerns concerning the alleged unilateral attempts of India to violate the Water Treaty of the Indus. He described these illegal actions and described them as a “red line” for Pakistan, since the water resources in question are a lifeline for its 240 million people.

The Prime Minister has also reiterated that the unresolved dispute of Jammu and Kashmir remains the deep cause of instability in South Asia. He called for a fair resolution of the problem in accordance with the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council and the aspirations of the cashmere people, identifying it as the key to lasting peace in the region.

The Iranian president, Pezeshkian, presented condolences on the loss of civil lives during the recent hostilities and praised Pakistan’s efforts for peace, welcoming the cease-fire agreement as a positive step. He reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to regional peace and stability.

The two leaders also examined bilateral relations and agreed to strengthen cooperation in the fields of mutual interest, in particular in trade, regional connectivity, security and exchanges of people to persons.

In a gesture reflecting growing ties, President Pezeshkian invited the Prime Minister to undertake an official visit to Tehran, an invitation that was warmly accepted.

Previously, Lieutenant-General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, Director General of Public Relations Interinstitutions (ISPR), praised Iran’s peace efforts during the recent Pakistani-Indian conflict and warned against the “forces” seeking to create rifts between fraternal countries.

“Pakistan is deeply grateful to the international community, and we particularly appreciate the fraudal countries, including the Islamic Republic of Iran,” General Chaudhry told Irna in an interview published today – the first by any spokesperson for the Pakistani armed forces in an Iranian outlet.

“We must be aware that there are forces in the region, with the help of external actors, trying to create misunderstandings and confusion between fraternal countries, aimed at sowing discord with friends and allies,” added the CEO.
