Pakistan assumes the presidency of UNSC today

Pakistan is expected to assume the presidency of the United Nations Security Council for July 2025 on Tuesday (today), Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad rushing to maintain multilateralism and international law while directing the work of the organization of 15 members.

“The presidency of Pakistan will be transparent, inclusive and reactive,” the Pakistani envoy told the app corresponding to the UN, while he is preparing to deal with the challenges to come.

The Presidency of the Security Council – the World Body’s Power Center – is part of Pakistan’s two -year mandate as a non -permanent member of the CSNU, which began in January 2025. The presidency turned every month among its 15 members, in alphabetical order.

The previous terms of Pakistan on the Council took place in 2012-13, 2003-04, 1993-94, 1983-84, 1976-77, 1968-69 and 1952-53.

Ambassador Iftikhar, who will chair council meetings on key global issues in July, said that he was fully aware of the complex geopolitical scenario, growing instability and international peace threats, marked by the increase in conflicts and the deepening of humanitarian crises.

During this July presidency, Pakistan should host two high -level signature events on multilateralism and peaceful dispute resolution and non -OIC cooperation.

These subjects, he said, reflected shared priorities-multilateralism, preventive diplomacy and cooperation with regional organizations to promote international peace and security.

At the same time, the emphasis will remain on the main global problems, including the situation in the Middle East and developments in Africa, Europe, Asia and Latin America.

The Ambassador Asim Iftikhar has already met the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and informed him of the board work program in July.

“As a country that has constantly recommended dialogue and diplomacy, Pakistan brings a prospect of principle and balanced to the work of the Security Council shaped by its own experience, and a long -standing contribution to peacekeeping and peacebuilding efforts,” said Pakistani shipment in the interview.

“We are impatient to work with all the members of the Council for a collective and appropriate action of the Council in accordance with its main responsibility under the charter and the expectations of wider UN members,” he added.

Pakistan was elected a non -permanent member with supporting support for UN members, obtaining 182 votes on 193.
