Islamabad:
The first cycle of additional talks at the secretary between Pakistan and Afghanistan was completed, focusing on the implementation of decisions made during the visit of the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Ishaq Dar in Kabul on April 19.
Discussions focused on key areas of mutual interest, including trade, cooperation in public transportation, security and connectivity.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Pakistani delegation was led by an additional secretary of Afghanistan and Western Asia Ali Asad Gilani, while the Afghan delegation was led by Moti Noor Ahmad Noor, Director General of the Political Division of the Afghan Foreign Affairs.
During talks, the two parties recognized terrorism as an important threat to regional peace and security. Pakistan underlined the need for decisive actions against terrorist groups operating from Afghan territory, stressing that these groups undermine the security of Pakistan and hamper regional development.
The two delegations also examined the progress of various agreements, in particular the abolition of treatment costs of 10% in Afghan Transport in public transport, the provision of insurance guarantees, reductions in digitization procedures and activation of the athletics system.

In addition, the discussions covered the Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistanis railway framework agreement, the two parties being accepting to finalize it soon. The return of Afghan citizens to their homeland was also a key discussion subject.
The briefing has revealed that since January 2024, Pakistan has delivered more than 500,000 visas for medical, tourist, commercial and educational purposes. The two parties reiterated their commitment to facilitate the legal movement of individuals through borders and to improve bilateral links.
The next series of conferences will be planned for mutually agreed dates, the two countries reaffirming their support for strengthening sustainable cooperation to meet shared challenges.
