Karachi:
The judicial magistrate South Kulsoom Sehato heard the case of the collapse of the Lyari building and sent 10 accused, in particular higher officers from the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) in pre -trial detention in prison. The police had produced the suspects before the magistrate after the completion of their pre -trial detention.
The suspects include Syed Irfan Haider Naqvi, Ashfaq Hussain, Mohammad Jalees Siddiqui, Syed Faheem Murtaza, Asim Ali Khan, Faheem Ahmed, Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah, Raheem Hussain Shah, Taj Mohammad and the managing director of Sbca Zargham Haider.
According to the investigation officer (IO), the official archives of the collapsed building could not be recovered, and the accused’s guard was required to obtain the documents. However, the court rejected this request, judging that the investigation could continue without extending their pre -trial detention.
Defense lawyer Zeeshan Rajpar argued, there was no preliminary complaint concerning the dangerous condition of the building. Another defense lawyer, Javed Chhattari, said that the responsibility of providing construction files rests with the section officer, who has become the complainant in this case rather than any assigned person.
The court rejected the request for the IO and sentenced to send all the accused to prison, stressing that the police can proceed with a record recovery through the section officer without the need to keep the suspects in detention.
