- Hasselblad belongs to Dji
- You will find Hasselblad brand optics in DJI and Dji Tech drones in Hasselblad cameras
- The next Middle-format Hasselblad Hasselblad camera is set to get a performance boost
I went to Göteborg in Sweden this week, where the legendary camera brand Hasselblad and the Chinese telephone manufacturer Oppo announced their renewed partnership, the pair promising that “with the extension of our collaboration, we will further push the limits of mobile imagery”.
As a photographer, I am really impressed by the current flagship phone of Oppo, the Find X8 Ultra, which presents the Hasselblad brand optics and even an X-Pan shooting which imitates the appearance of a famous Hasselblad analog format.
It is an upgrade of the X8 Pro of 2024 which, revealing, we said that the features of the “best camera system of any phone” – are looking for my deep dive on the camera of the ultra model, to come soon.
And Oppo is not the only Chinese technology company with which the manufacturer of Swedish cameras in Cozé – you will also find Hasselblad Optics in several DJI drones and, the company was acquired by DJI years ago.
During the press event, I met Bronius Rudnickas, World Marketing Director of Hasselblad. I was eager to hear how Hasselblad benefited from life under the property of the DJI.
First, Bronius pointed out that its recent medium format cameras, such as the X2D 100C, are equipped with an SSD of 1 internal to, which is manufactured by DJI. This is a feature that I really appreciated during the X2D test, especially since the camera also has removable memory, so you will not depend entirely on this SSD.
We also know that DJI, which is a much larger fish on the world market of technology than Hasselblad, is in a strong position to search for crucial components, such as sensor technology – like most cameras today, Hasselblads are equipped with Sony sensors.
I was also impatient to discover other ways in which Hasselblad and Dji could work together to improve Hasselblad cameras. For example, could autofocus performance be improved in the next Hasselblad camera?
“It will certainly be better … and more intelligent,” said Bronius.
It’s promising. For me, the biggest drawback in the X2D, for example, is its poor automatic performance. I really love its fixed images of 100 MP with a breathtaking natural color – something that goes beyond the capacities of my complete Nikon camera – but the X2D is certainly difficult to nail a clear focus, especially for superficial portraits.
Personally, I am delighted with Hasselblad’s next camera – and if recent rumors are true, I might not have long to wait.
The next X2D could really land, with new DJI technology
Rumors without mirror of Tipter Hasselblad disclosed regulatory information to us, and the first images of what it says is X2D II, a few months ago, as well as a basic specifications list.
These specifications include a 100 MP sensor (with dimensions of 44 x 33 mm – which is much greater than the complete frame, and the same format as the Fujifilm GFX cameras such as the GFX100 II), the 8EV image stabilization and the internal SSD memory of 1 TB. However, these are all functionalities that are present in the X2D 100c 100c model – Best mirror cameras for image quality – So what’s new in Hasselblad’s next camera?
Rumors without mirror suggest that we will see a LIDAR automatic focus system, gracked with DJI. If this is true, in theory, it could improve the speed of monitoring of the automatic focus, although we will not know that we will not have the hand on such a camera.
Can we expect Sony and Canon automatic focus performance for fixed images next time? Probably not, but we can expect a better and “smarter” autofocus. Personally, being able to rely on the Hasselblad camera monitoring autofocus, even if it is only for human -eyed detection, at the top of my wishes list for a future model – hope that this turns out to be the case.
According to rumors, the next Hasselblad could be revealed in August – and I am delighted with the prospect of a future Hasselblad with the usual breathtaking quality, associated with a better and more intelligent autofocus.
