The previous policy indicated: “To participate in an event punishable by fencing in the United States, athletes are to register with fencing in the United States as a sex in which they identify,” adding that biological men “can only compete in female events after having finished a calendar year (12 months) of testosterone suppression”.
USA Fencing announced at the end of April that it was preparing to modify its eligibility policy between the sexes to ensure that the female category would be “open exclusively to female athletes”. The new official policy does not include the language “exclusively” used in the April proposal.
USA Fencing refused to clarify PK Press Club Digital if the new policy explicitly prevents all biological men from competing with female events. American fences have also refused to specify how he will apply the new policy, if the compulsory sexual tests will be implemented or if they will accept the modified birth certificates as proof of birth sex.
USA Fencing addressed the new policy in a public declaration, saying that the change came in response to the new directives published by the American Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC).
“On July 18, 2025, the USOPC published new athlete security guidelines that all national public bodies must follow within the framework of a federal decree issued by the president earlier this year. In response, the American fencing will implement the transgender and non -binary updated community that were published for the first time and shared with the Escrime Community on April 15, 2025. effective.
“We remain firmly determined to respect, equity and well-being of athletes. This update, mandated by the USOPC, aligns our sport with the current national standards while keeping the support of the community in the foreground.”
Who is Stephanie Turner? Fencer of women who knelt to protest against the trans adversary and inflamed the global consciousness
PK Press Club Digital contacted the USOPC for a response to the USA Fencing Declaration.
The USOPC transgender eligibility policy page now includes a note that is seen as follows: “On July 21, 2025, please refer to the USOPC athlete security policy.”
This policy does not define clear guidelines concerning trans inclusion in female sports. However, he includes a paragraph which directly quotes the executive decree of President Donald Trump, Donald Trump, outside women’s sport.
“USOPC will continue to collaborate with various stakeholders with surveillance responsibilities … to ensure that women have a fair and safe competition environment in accordance with the executive order 14201,” said policy.
USA Fencing has been under a national microscope for its gender eligibility policy since April 2, when images of the female female Stephanie Turner on their knees to protest a trans opponent during a competition in Maryland have become viral. Turner was disqualified and gave a black card for his refusal to face the Trans opponent, which caused a mass buttress against American fences.
The controversy was then the subject of a federal hearing on May 7. Government Department of Effectiveness (DOGE) “Unfinmerical Play of the subcommittee: Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports” saw Turner testify against the president of the American fencing Damien Lehfeldt.
In early June, the United States board of directors voted to modify its previous policy Prioritized states With LGBTQ convivial laws for host sites for competitions and a policy that may have prevented the national anthem during certain events. These two policies were also widely criticized in the aftermath of Turner’s viral protest.
Then, the following week, two members of the United States’s fences board of directors brought in legal action against the other six members of the large scale, alleging that Lehfeldt made false declarations at the congress at the hearing of May 7. The complainants, Andrey Geva and Abdel Salem, each have long links with sport and organization, previously leading or competition for the American team.
USA Fencing recognized the trial in a declaration to PK Press Club Digital.
“USA Fencing proudly serves its members – athletes, coaches, referees and clubs – in our community with absolute transparency and integrity. This derivative trial distorts our organization, and we will vigorously defend the organization in court; any attempt to denigrate them will be approached in an appropriate manner,” vigorously said the press release.
“Because the disputes are underway, we cannot discuss the details. Our goal remains unshakable: to advance fencing on a national scale, to support the success of each member and maintain the values of the Olympic and Paralympic movement.”
