The Senate slams the murder of honor “in Balutchistan, urges rapid justice

The Senate adopted a resolution on Thursday condemning the brutal murder of a man and a woman in Balutchistan, carried out on the orders of a Jirga Tribal. The resolution was adopted with overwhelming support, with Jamiat Ulema-E-Islam (JUI-F) being the only party to have refused to approve it.

According to the text of the resolution, the Chamber “strongly and unequivocally condemns the odious incident in which a woman and a man were executed publicly and illegally in broad daylight, following a so-called Jirga decision.”

He called the murders a premeditated act of vigilant violence and rejected any attempt to justify the act under the guise of tribal customs or so-called honor.

Calling “barbaric” murders, the resolution said that they should not be masked by cultural or traditional pretexts. “It is actually a crime that seriously dishonored the nation. Any attempt to justify such a crime based on” Custom or Honor “is completely unacceptable, just like the whole of the blame process,” he noted.

Affirming that the killings of honor constitute a murder under the law, the resolution stressed that they had to be treated and prosecuted accordingly. He warned that the rule of law cannot be applied selectively, and tribal or informal justice mechanisms should not compromise constitutional protections and regular procedure.

The resolution urged the government to ensure an immediate and transparent investigation into murders. He called for all those involved – that directly or indirectly, including people who have summoned or sanctioned the JIRGA – to be brought to justice without delay.

He also asked that the organizations responsible for applying laws be responsible for managing these cases strictly under the relevant provisions of the Pakistan Criminal Code, without compromise or discretion.

In addition, he recommended that the Ministries of Law and Justice and Human Rights will carry out an in -depth examination of the application gaps of existing laws dealing with so -called honor crimes and propose exploitable reforms for a solid implementation.

He underlined the need to train and raise awareness of prosecutors and investigations to treat crimes of honor and sexist violence as serious criminal offenses justifying proactive prosecution.

The resolution also called on provincial and federal governments to launch awareness campaigns rejecting the concept of violence in its fees and strengthening the supremacy of constitutional law on tribal or feudal traditions.

After the adoption of the resolution, Senator Rehman expressed his gratitude to other legislators through the parties of the parties to support the motion.

The murders, which occurred last month, attracted great attention after a video showed that the couple was shot. The man who killed the woman was his brother, acting on behalf of the family and the tribe, said provincial police chief Moazzam Jah Ansari Reuters.

The chief of the tribe, Sher Baz Satakzai, had ordered the murder, he added. Satakzai was one of those arrested, according to chief minister Sarfraz Bugti, who addressed the media at a press conference in Quetta, the provincial capital.
