Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved the development of a digital ecosystem within the Federal Board of Return (FBR), as part of the government’s reform efforts, Radio Pakistan reported.
Chairing a meeting on Saturday in Islamabad to examine the progress of the FBR reforms, the PM ordered that the experts recognized worldwide are committed to design and implement the new digital system.
He informed that all data – import and production of raw materials to the manufacture of products and consumer purchases – must be integrated into a single centralized system to allow end -to -end monitoring.
The Prime Minister stressed that the system should be made so effective that the entire value chain can be monitored digitally. He added that centralized data should be used to clarify strategic economic decision -making.
He also pointed out that the key to reducing the tax burden on the common citizen lies in the expansion of the tax base and the elimination of the informal economy.

Earlier, the PM Shehbaz directed the immediate implementation of the current reforms within the FBR, stressing the importance of digitization and automation to revise the tax system of Pakistan.
Chairing a high -level exam meeting, the Prime Minister stressed the need to rectify what he described as “70 years of poor management” in the country’s tax framework. He promised a maximum facilitation for taxpayers and honest companies, but promised strict legal action against persons involved in tax evasion, without concessions.
