Political observers believe that if the separation of a federating unit is possible by peaceful means, there is no harm to use the principle of self -determination.
For example, residents of the Canadian province of Quebec and the British Scotland region have been authorized to express their opinion through a separation referendum. In both cases, the majority decided not to leave the mother mother, expressing the desire to stay in union with greater economy.
In these two cases, the democratic will of the people was respected, and those who have separatist tendencies did not use any armed struggle.
It is important to mention that Scotland has made an armed struggle in the past, but over time, pragmatists within the Scottish company realized that the collaboration with London was better than the Antagoniser. The Scots were rewarded for their pragmatism, many of which have won high -level positions in the British colonial administration around the world. Some of them have become an integral part of the British ruling elite, thriving on colonial looting and booty, in addition to going to the London power corridors. This benefited a lot from Scottish society, which has experienced more prosperity than Ireland, which chose the path of armed struggle.
It is believed that industrial and economic productivity in Northern Ireland began to decline long before the troubles that broke out in 1968. For example, manufacturing employment in the region has decreased by around 15,000 jobs between 1949 and 1966. But armed struggle panicked investors who expressed their reluctance to invest. The economic consequences were catastrophic for the region, which underwent the losses of 14 billion pounds sterling due to bodily injuries, material damage and public order costs.
In the end, the Irish had to choose the path of peace and reconciliation, which benefited ordinary people. For example, violence has reduced Northern Ireland GDP to 10%. In 1998, the per capita GDP of Northern Ireland was less than 20% of the whole of the British level, although higher than the Wales or the northeast (the poorest English region). In 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic, GDP per capita of Northern Ireland increased by 27% in real terms; The gap with the level of the United Kingdom has remained relatively unchanged, at around 21%. Northern Ireland began to outperform the country of Wales and the Northeast.
The Basque Movement of the Fatherland and freedom in Spain was not terrible in terms of death, killing more than 800 people, but it was very lasting, more than 40 years, fighting for the independence of the seven regions of northern Spanish and the southwest of France that Basque separatists claim like their own. Emerging in the 1960s, he lost his momentum in the 21st century, choosing to engage in dialogues. The separatist group was completely disarmed in 2017. Spain also had to face separatist trends in Catalonia, but the inhabitants of this region remained peaceful, putting a political struggle for their rights.
Unlike Spain, Canada and the United Kingdom, nationalist insurrections or separatist movements have proven to be very brutal and bloody in non-Western countries. For example, the struggle of the Kurdistan workers’ party in Türkiye led to the murder of more than 40,000 people. The Kurds in Iraq, Syria and Iran have also hosted separatist aspirations, some of them also fighting the states concerned. All Kurdish groups had to compromise in one way or another.
The Tamil Insurrection in Sri Lanka was 20,000 to 75,000 lives. The Sri Lankan government claims that the toll was 9000. Feroid activists had to go after paying a high price for their separatist movements. Assam, Nagaland, Tripipura, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh, in the northeast region of India, have also faced insurrections and separatist movements affirming more than tens of thousands of lives.
The separatist struggle of South Sudan turned out to be one of the bloodiest incidents of the modern era, which killed nearly 400,000 people, moving four million internally. Acrimony caused by brutal separation has left deep marks on the Psyche des Sundanese, which are always struggling with the effects of this conflict, in addition to facing more disorders and civil conflicts.
Most countries that obtained independence after 1917 and more specifically following the Second World War had the blessing of the Soviet Union and the socialist camp which supported the financially, morally and diplomatic separatist and nationalist movements. Most of the separatists fighting for independence would put struggles against the colonial countries which were deeply despised in the South world. In 1945, 85% of the world was in the claws of colonialism. It was the support of Moscow that helped the release movements to break the obstacles of colonial subjugation.
After 1992, only separatist groups benefiting from the support of the West managed to gain freedom. East Timor, South Sudan and Bosnian Muslims all supported in one way or another. The West did not throw its blessing behind each group, not having kept its promises in all cases.
The nationalists want to use their natural resources for their own people. The question is: if a nationalist group obtains freedom with the help of imperialist or global powers, would it be able to use these resources for its inhabitants, or should they be won for transnational companies? These societies overturned nationalist governments in Iran, Guatemala, Chile and other parts of the world because the leaders of these unfortunate countries wanted to use their resources for their people, exasperating the West.
Given all of this, it can be advised, according to criticism, that groups like Balouthes separatists follow the path of reconciliation, learning separatist movements in several parts of the world which ultimately surrendered.
A few years ago, when the emotions worked in certain parts of the Sindh, Dr Qadir Magsi and other nationalists Sindhi warned youth against the catastrophic impacts of such activism. They mobilized all civil society Sindhi against the specter of activism.
Today, the young people of Sindhi collect the dividends of a peaceful struggle. Their representation in the bureaucracies of provincial, federal and local organizations has experienced a formidable increase. The Balutch could also follow the same path, but the political leadership of the State and Baloch will have to take initiatives for this purpose.
